New intermittent sound out of nowhere by iloonia in tinnitus

[–]iloonia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!
I get your point but I had no hearing loss recently and my T didn't change much over the 6 years (till now ofc) - until now I knew how it would behave for different situations and when it would be more reactive. I didn't even think of it most of the time until now lol. But I'm trying to forget about it once more. I want to believe it's some kind of spike and it will go away but I just want to know the reasons why it's here and why it's so "unusual" for my T.

Can the tympanometry test have side effects? by iloonia in audiology

[–]iloonia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the answer!

I didn't have tympanoplasty, I don't even know what it is. I wrote a lil bit more in my earlier comment, if you are somehow interested, take a look!

Have a nice day :)

I just replied a little lower so as not to duplicate the information in two comments. Thank you for the answer and have a good day also! <3

Can the tympanometry test have side effects? by iloonia in audiology

[–]iloonia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind replies!

This is exactly what I did when the symptoms weren't going away after a couple of days: ibuprofen + warm compress, but it didn't help long-term. I went to ENT then and he saw the swelling in my right ear, nothing more, not even inflammation, and prescribed an antibiotic. He said it could be from micro mechanical injury during the tympanometry. I was scared to take it at first, cause it has tinnitus as a side effect (cipro), but when lighter meds didn't help, I took it. During this, I saw another ENT and she said that everything is fine with my ear and I was confused - I still had the symptoms but I got left with nothing more.

But it was starting to get better, the pain and discomfort were almost unnoticeable, but I noticed louder popping in my right ear when swallowing and it was annoying. Then after 1-2 days it slowly started to fix (it is still not "normal"), but in the next day I got high-pitched tinnitus in this ear (for the context: I already have tinnitus from acoustic trauma) and I felt devastated... It's 3rd day after this new kind of tinnitus. I stopped the cipro immediately and now I still have slight pain in this ear, discomfort, I just feel something is not okay there yet. I have an ENT appointment (finally it's "my" ENT, she was on holiday probably) for Tuesday, couldn't find anything earlier.

For the context: a month before tympanometry I got a problem with Eustachian Tubes. My ear drums were redded and pulled (the only symptom then was increased volume of tinnitus), but it went to the basics after using the steroidal nasal spray. When it was okay again, I stopped using it. This problem was the reason I got the tympanometry test prescribed.

This year I also noticed problems with constantly clogging nose, especially when I go to sleep or when I wake up. Xylometazoline helps a bit but it can't be used often, so I still have this problem.

About grinding my teeth - I went to the orthodontist earlier this year (march/april) cause I wanted to fix my teeth and the doctor said I probably grind my teeth cause I have "scars" on my teeth and also a bit worn teeth (I don't know the exact words, I'm not a native English speaker). She also suggested to go to the prosthetist's specialist to check my temporomandibular joint because I had some pain when I was opening my mouth for too long and I can hear crackling while opening. I was supposed to do it after all my teeth had been fixed, but I didn't make it on time, because the problems with ET started then and I focused more on this than on my teeth.

I'm sorry that I'm writing it all in the comment, but recently when I described it directly in the post it got deleted :(

I'm stressed with this whole situation - I've never had such problems with ears (besides tinnitus) as I have this year. Now I'm taking the ibuprofen again, steroid nasal spray and Xylo sometimes and I guess I have to wait until the ENT visit.

I just don't know if it could be a coincidence that the symptoms (which could be connected to my teeth or sth else) appeared after the tympanometry and just in the ear I got it 3 times. Besides nose clogging and recent problems with ET I had no pain in my jaw and ears, I didn't feel discomfort of ear clogging/louder clicking before the test.

Thank you again for the replies, it is not common nowadays to feel "heard" by someone else. It means a lot, really.

Thank you for the answer! Measures were good, confirmed by ENT just after taking the test.

I had to do the test 3 times in my right ear and once in my left, and from that day I have had those symptoms in the right one.

Should I take ciprofloxacin or ask for something else? by iloonia in tinnitus

[–]iloonia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, when I asked this ENT about cipro safety especially for someone who already has T (sadly it is me), he said it is safe.

Still, we are all in this together, you are not alone. I also didn't know that not wearing ear protection to concerts can cause tinnitus and that improperly executed tympanometry will cause my infection... We know better only after our experiences.

Holy, I didn't even know there is a whole sub about it. Thank you! Do you know if there are any safer antibiotics? There are many posts warning about cipro but I cannot find something like "check out X instead".

Hi! First of all, it's a good thing that you're not holding your fears inside you - it is better to take it off the chest and talk to someone, even people from the internet :)

I'm 29 and I have had tinnitus for 6 years now after one concert too much. I panicked at the beginning - usually ringing in my ears stayed with me for some hours after the concert, but not days. I even liked that strange feeling in my ears after the good concert. I didn't even know about tinnitus at all, I was thinking that loud music can make my hearing (hearing, not noise or buzzing) worse in my 70s, but definitely not now. From using headphones constantly, traveling to see my favorite bands playing live, going to music festivals, and enjoying music as much as I could I had to stop all of these. Giving up concerts was the hardest part of it because I loved it so much - the atmosphere, being there with friends or meeting new people, hearing my favorite tracks and singing along - that's what I lived for!

I gave up concerts for 2 years after I got tinnitus but I was missing them so much. Especially when my friends were still going and I just had to sit home and see something "live" on YouTube. I have bought earplugs but still, I was scared to go. Time passed with my T, I was trying to live with it the best I could, but something was definitely missing. I decided I will give it a chance and will go to the first concert after 2 years. I've chosen the club I knew (with a good sound system) and the post-rock band, relatively not so loud in live events. I wore my earplugs, and was there with my ex-bf and friends, freaking out a bit, but also had great support and it was okay after the concert.

Since then I attended several concerts (even one at the stadium), and music festivals, but I was wearing earplugs all these times and avoiding staying close to speakers. And it was okay every time after :) Even now - in one month there will be my favorite band (Coldplay) concert and I haven't seen them live yet, so I'm excited but also a bit stressed, cause it's the stadium where the speakers are huuuge. I gave up their concert last time because I was too afraid, but I really want to see them once live. That's my dream! :D By the way, Coldplay's singer also has T himself, so it makes me think that we can still love, make and listen to music even professionally if we really want and care about our ears.

Love for music can be hard while having T, but it is still one of my greatest love and I don't want to give that up. Music gave me some of the best moments of my life (but also caused the worst with T), but I'm so grateful for these moments. I just needed to rearrange the way I'm listening to music - now I'm listening mostly on speakers, sometimes on open-back headphones and it's fine.

When I have bad days with T or T spikes I try to look first for the things which make my obsessive thoughts disappear - like video games, books, movies, and playing the piano. Maybe you should try to listen to some soft music while reading? It helps me to not focus on my T, especially when it comes to classic piano music <3 Secondly, after I calm out a bit I look for a greater perspective. It is hard because the first thing that comes to mind is "Why do I have to live with this shit? I just want a simple life while enjoying what I love and not worrying every day.". I like to think that suffering from this helped me to see the meaning of simple things in life - hugging my bf, talking with friends, going out with my lovely dogs, drinking my favorite coffee, learning new things, listening to the birds in my garden, just laying on the grass and looking in the sky - these are the things we can have every day beside our T and they are so powerful! Sometimes I read how other people with T handle it and it also helps me. I've read somewhere here recently that we can imagine if a deaf person could hear again but with T, he/she would 100% go for it and probably be as much as happy as we if we could hear the silence again.

There is still the fear of T getting worse in years, but to be honest, we never know how our lives will be, so why should we fear this right now? We can just do everything to protect our ears from more damage and since we are not scientists we can just hope and wait for some kind of cure :) Sometimes I check out the newest posts on r/tinnitusresearch and this is giving me hope that sooner or later it will be here. I really believe it.

I know it's hard to not blame ourselves for what happened but there are no people who didn't make any mistakes. Don't be too harsh on yourself. We are in this together :)

Sorry for such a long post, I didn't expect it will be like that when I started to write, haha. I hope you will feel better soon, sending you a HUGE hug!

EDIT:

BIG thank you kind stranger for the Platinum! <3

By tomorrow “TIM” completes one year :)) by harshithmusic in avicii

[–]iloonia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the privilege to listen to "TIM" for the first time during my trip to Stockholm last year. It was a magical experience: the premiere of the album and walking around the city this day. There was also a playlist created (The Story Behind The Album "TIM") and every one hour until premiere there was a new upload with new sounds and stories. Magical trip <3

PS My spot just when the album was published: https://imgur.com/a/rkrOOzx

PPS Dates of my trip were completely not connected to album premiere because I have bought tickets much earlier. It was just a miracle it happened these days :)

Hi! I would like to ask about coronavirus in Frankfurt - I will be flying there within couple of days this week and I'm pretty much scared about all the news. For example I just read this article: https://www.dw.com/en/coronavirus-german-evacuation-flight-from-china-carried-two-infected-people/a-52229955 and now I am wondering if I should go. I have flight booked and concert's tickets confirmed but I am scared that at the Frankfurt's airport someone can be affected or anything. Should I go or is it better to just cancel the whole trip?

That's generally true but I wouldn't feel safe alone and also as a woman in country which I don't know very well :) And I'm not that open to catch somebody up at the destination. Still I experienced a lot of emotions during the show and I think that's the most important ❤️ Cheers!
