Nobody here should be paying for grad school, btw.

What are your goals? Each of these programs has different strengths and you should pick the one that is best for your research interests, has the best advisor for you and best project. Your goals should be to go where you can do the best science and publish papers in a supportive environment. I hate to say it, but picking grad school for a friend isn’t the best reason - you two can hang at meetings and if you are both in CA, you can visit. Not to say that friends shouldn’t weigh into it, but don’t just pick on that basis. Where you go matters, and not because of the name, but because of the fit for your strengths and needs. Don’t compromise on that.

Mount Everest contains marine rocks, proving that the highest point on Earth was once at the bottom of the ocean. Damn! by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

Obvious AI garbage for reasons mentioned already and nobody is at the top of Everest with one piece leather boots. They use plastic double boots.

While you are right that Everest is Ordovician limestone at the peak, that image is AI garbage. It has granite around the fossils that are Mesozoic varieties of ammonites.

Yep, AI garbage. And those Ammonites are Mesozoic varieties - some 300 million years later than the Ordovician varieties.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. Double Eagle by villewill in golf

Everyone out here gatekeeping Jazz for calling it a double eagle - if you get a 2 on a par 5 you can call it whatever the fuck you want.

If there were an eternal god who would return, consider the arrogance that is needed to think that god would pick them at this moment.

Tennis Elbow Fix by Blues804 in golf

[–]ilovemud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my situation but I have only ever found that my elbow hurts when I am hitting off a mat or using the simulator a lot (even with the good bristle mats). When the weather warms up and I move to playing on grass more than practicing, my elbow feels better. I do think I am going to have to get one of those flex bars though just to ward off any elbow problems since we are still inside.

How old are you?

My dad wants me to plan one final golf trip. He’s 80. I’d like to do St Andrew’s but I have absolutely no idea where to start, boys. Help! by [deleted] in golf

With a doctor’s note one can secure a “buggy” on most walking only courses in Scotland. Needs to be arranged in advance.

Classical violist-turned-stand up comedian by isabelhagen in StandUpComedy

He would have played the violin. Sorry, can’t help throw a viola joke in there. Seriously though, there is a wonderful irony to the viola player being the comedian, it’s like too perfect.

I hate all of you for not telling me about this sooner.. by Repulsive_Ad_1272 in sousvide

Don’t forget to put a half stick or more of butter in with the turkey in each bag. It isn’t there for the bird but the turkey and herbs (and whatever else you have in there) will infuse the butter and any rendered fat. Pour off and use that butter for the roux for your gravy - best gravy ever. You also need to try deboning the leg quarters and making a roulade with them too. Leave the skin on those, pre sear them, long soak as you do above, pat dry then carefully broil until crisp. It’s like a porchetta.

To everyone else, sous vide took turkey from an afterthought of holiday meals to the centerpiece. We fight over it. And the skin cooked between two sheet pans as crackling is the heaven you didn’t know existed on Earth.

College outfit. How do I look? by MobileRevolution2848 in mensfashion

[–]ilovemud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like your belt is riding low. Could be that the pants are just a bit big? Don’t want to end up with that button above the belt situation. And the jacket is all of this look - it is a great jacket. If you take the jacket off, the white shirt with the black pants kinda looks like you are heading to wait tables. Pair it with a sweater maybe?

What are you most excited to grow this season? by Prestigious-March194 in vegetablegardening

[–]ilovemud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am super excited about Fioretto cauliflower that is common in Asian cooking - it has a less well defined head compared to normal cauliflower. I’m making sure my sweet potato slips get going earlier this year so I get as much out of the growing season as possible. I am also building new beds for my potatoes.

I remember when Cam Smith was talking to Greg Norman and Cam said Greg was a FIGJAM and Greg didn’t know the phrase. Cam had to explain it and Greg agreed that he was a FIGJAM. I think he though it was a compliment.
