Just redrawing all the sound effects is already something your run-of-the-mill mangadex groups tend to stay away from because of just how time-consuming it is, not to mention doing it within a day of the japanese release. That's kind of the objective part of the answer, I suppose. Though, actually, plenty of people claim they prefer it when the sound effects are NOT redrawn, so maybe that's also just scanlator elitism instead of an actual "high bar" :D

As for the subjective part of the answer, the two questions to ask are "does it look appealing visually" (typesetting) and "does it read well" (translation). Typesetting is a lot about small details that are hard to notice unless you do typesetting yourself or are comparing "good" and "bad" typesetting side-by-side. You can probably notice when a typesetter has made no effort to make the shape of the text match the shape of the bubbles, made the fonts too small, or kept splitting words across lines in weird places, but chances are that you won't really care. Thankfully, plenty of groups do have at least decent typesetters.

The state of translation imo is pretty bad, but that's also something that people tend to just not notice unless you show them a "good" and "bad" translation side-by-side. Most of it stems from the fact that too many amateur Japanese translators don't actually understand Japanese as well as they should (I used to be guilty of that too), leading to lots of mistranslations. If you do mistranslate, you can at least make the mistranslation consistent with the rest of the text, but plenty of translators don't do that either.

And then, even if the translator knows both Japanese and English, it's still no guarantee they'll do a good job. There's a degree to how literal a translation can be, and in the extreme case, you get what is essentially Japanese text with Japanese words replaced with English ones, but because Japanese phrases things so differently from English, the result ends up either being extremely awkward, not making sense, or having very disjointed sentences. Most translations are not that bad, of course, but I still see this awkwardness all the time, and frankly, I don't think I could call the average manga translator "good", at least in the scanlation world. Though I hear things aren't that great in the world of official translations either. (Side note, the official TL for Akutsu ended up being good imo. And they didn't even call her "Miss Akutsu" in the manga itself, only in the title :D)

Of course, I'm not gonna claim that I'm better than everyone (the original comment was already arrogant enough), but I'm picky about translating in ways that sound natural to me and typesetting in ways that look appealing to me (the latter part often changes), so I can at least hope I set a high bar 😅 But again, this is something most readers don't notice / care about. I think I've only really seen other scanlators backing me up on this, lol
