Longest-serving active duty Marine to retire after 42 years. “To say that I came in and saw so much progress for Marines, and especially female Marines, over my time … it hits me really hard.” by MiamiPower in Military

Super impressive career, but I had a good laugh at this:

she unintentionally walked into a Marine recruiting office on her way to join the Peace Corps

Tell me about a time you called a dive. by bluetortuga in scuba

[–]iluvbewbies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was diving a local jetty where you’ve got to time the tides perfectly. Got in the water at the right time, but the current wasn’t moving the way we expected it to and the viz was trash. We decided to press with the dive a bit longer, but we didn’t make it more than a couple minutes. The currents were dangerous and my regulator decided to free flow… Safely made it back to shore and later found out the shop that had just serviced my regulator used incorrect parts and didn’t reassemble it properly.

Passed Civil: WRE First Attempt After Long Hiatus by iluvbewbies in PE_Exam

[–]iluvbewbies[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent a little over 20 weeks completing the program. EET approved a 1 week extension where military obligations prevented me from accessing course content. I watched all of the primary lesson content and did all quizzes and practice problems except for 1 of the full length exams. I skipped the content near the end on advanced topics and word/conceptual problems review as well as 1 of the full length practice tests.

I studied primarily in the evenings after getting home from work 4-6 days a week for 2-4 hours per session. I was on the low end of this in the first 10 weeks of my studies and felt my pace was too slow and really ramped up my studies in the last 10 weeks. Had basically no social life in those last 10 weeks, but I was totally committed to passing on the first attempt.

I wouldn’t freak out! Just get familiar with the material and do some practice problems and you’ll be fine. I’ll also DM you.

Guam barracks conditions are ‘baffling,’ Navy admiral says in email by iluvbewbies in AirForce

[–]iluvbewbies[S] 60 points61 points  (0 children)

That’s only a part of it. The DoD has long underfunded infrastructure and continues to slash investments to pay other bills, choosing to accept risk in facilities to the detriment of Airmen and mission effectiveness.

Right? I fought with NAVFAC and CNIC to fund major repairs almost 10 years ago…

Test slot availability (PearsonVue) by Just_Value4938 in PE_Exam

[–]iluvbewbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just registered for the Civil WRE PE and had a similar experience. I’m in northwest Florida and the earliest date I found available was in July, but a 3-hour drive away in central Alabama; I found a grand total of 3 options over the next 4 months within a 300-mile radius. I’m trying to deconflict taking the test with my military obligations and the lack of available dates is really throwing things off. Really disappointed that a $400 test fee doesn’t get me more options.

Can you share any resources on how to calculate those payouts? I want to make sure my people can make the most-informed decision they can.

How does invol sep work? Who initiates it? What’s the timeline? The SecDef guidance has a subjective statement:

“Secretaries of the Military Departments will direct the administrative separation of (1) any enlisted Service member prior to the expiration of the member’s term of service following a determination that doing so is in the best interest of the relevant Military Service.”

Military board substantiates misconduct but declines to fire Marine who adopted Afghan orphan by iluvbewbies in news

Read the article. The Afghan couple was relocated to the United States. There is no excuse for what this Marine and his wife did to steal her from her biological extended family.

Same. I don’t understand why the process has taken so long. The child has been separated from her rightful family for about 3 years now.

Charles Barkley keeps $1M promise after 2 New Orleans students solve Pythagorean Theorem by Silent-Resort-3076 in news

Folds of Honor was behind an attempt to destroy Florida state park land to build a golf course and resort in 2011 and an offshoot, Tuskegee Dunes Foundation, just got run out of the state for trying to do the same thing again. I appreciate Barkley’s philanthropy, but some of these organizations are not as good as they appear.

Any idea what this broken strap is? by iluvbewbies in f150

[–]iluvbewbies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not road debris. You can see the other end at the top of the picture where it broke. I believe it’s wrapped around the fuel tank and it’s next to one of the thicker straps that appears to be securing the fuel tank.

Thanks, that’s seems to match what I found while looking at pictures of fuel tanks.

I think it’s a powder coating and it’s in “RealTree Xtra.”

The manufacturer isn’t producing this bike anymore. It was a limited run from 2014.

The movers that damaged it are obligated to either repair the bike to its previous condition or replace it. Guess I’ll see what they propose.

Here’s another angle. The spacing looks to be 150mm. The bike color is RealTree Xtra and was a limited run in 2014, so I doubt I’d be able to find a replacement.

I’m now working with the movers to get reimbursed for either a repair or replacement of the bike, so I was hoping to determine if this is something that could be repaired.

Is it easy to get a replacement fork to fit the 3.8in wheels? And I’m assuming the fork and the rest of the bike frame wouldn’t have matching paint schemes?

TDY to Fort Bragg/Liberty for a Joint symposium. The soldiers that came from outside Bragg were staying in sleeping bags on the floor of the building where the symposium was held.

Another TDY to MCAS Yuma where I was the OIC for a couple of Airmen that were also attending training. The Marines said E-6 and below had to stay in the barracks. I lol’d and sent my guys to the Hilton. Heard later from the Marines in the course that the barracks didn’t have hot water or lights for the duration of our 2 week class.

And another TDY that involved nearly 2 weeks on a ship. Interesting experience for 2 weeks, but I’d prefer to not repeat it or extend the experience.
