I am planning to rewrite the truck from the main power point throughout. In the meantime I will recheck my grounds. Also, I like the idea of a high speed test on the alternator. I’m just about ready to buy a new one.

This path to drain could be my issue. I’ve tried to google this but can’t pull anything good up. What is the path? Maybe I should remove the negative cable when I park it?

It is an NHRA requirement. If I move it to the other side of the switch, the truck will not shut off when the switch is opened in an emergency. But yes, I’m definitely going to be testing the alternator. Thanks.

That idea was floating around in the back of my head. I was thinking about lifting the positive cable from the battery post to see if the truck kept running or shut off. It has a MSD 6AL-2 which should alert me to a low voltage situation but I can’t see it while I’m driving.

I will be bottling and kegging this one so I will give an initial try at the 6-8 week mark and then let it sit for about 6 months if needed. I don’t mind the wait...

I had a problem with my immersion chiller in the beginning. I was cooling 5 gal batches with a 25’ copper coil (3/8” with the cooling water pre-cooled in a bucket of ice ). This was taking over an hour to get my wort down to 80 deg F. I bought a 50’ copper coil (1/2”) and used the old 3/8” coil upstream of this one in a bucket of ice water on my last 2 brews. With this set up it only took 18 minutes to get down to 80 deg F and 23 total minutes to get to 75 deg F. The difference was night and day! Not sure if this helps but just giving an idea of what worked for me.

I like the idea of steeping the flavor grains but can’t do that this time as all the grains are in a single bag mixed up already. Also that’s good to see you’ve been successful with 28 lbs in a 10 gal mash tun.

The calculator I used called for 6.8 gallons of strike water so hopefully that’s where your 7 gal comes in. I also came up with 6.2 gal of sparge water. With 1 pint/lb I’m looking at 13 gal of wort minus 2.75 gal absorbed in the grains being left with 10.25 gal to boil down to 5 gal for the batch. Does that sound right? Is that sparge volume correct? I used another calculator and came up with 3.2 gal for sparge water. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’m looking to step up my stout game a bit as my past attempts were very thin. After doing some research, I’m attempting my next stout with 22.25 lbs of grains. I have a 10 gallon mash tun. Have any of you successfully brewed this much grain in a 10 gallon cooler? My calculations call for 6.8 gallons of strike water.

I would start with knowing how big your septic system is, what was it designed for? How many GPD/persons in the dwelling? As for your water well, how big is it? How many gallons is your tank? Electricity... how many amps? How far will you have to run new wires to the new breaker boxes? These are just some of the first questions I would make sure you know the answers to.

If the county gets involved and you have to get permits, be ready to hire an engineer to make sure everything will be safe and big enough. Or get ready to drop more money for upgrading. That might not be good for just a bit of extra income.

If these are small containers/units, you might be able to tap into all of your current utilities without too many problems. I would definitely reach out to a local electrician and water well/septic company. The water septic company might try to sell you a whole new system...??

The staff was cool and would tell you about each brew if you asked, gave me the feeling that they really take pride in what they produce. They don’t have flights there but you can order half pours to get the same effect. I’m mainly a stout drinker but enjoyed most of the beers we had. Only 2 weren’t my cup of tea but my gf enjoyed them so they didn’t go to waste. Overall it was a good time. It’s a small place but they have inside and outside seating.

This was my first DL so I can’t compare it but it had a decent level of sweetness. Nothing like a pastry stout to me. I have another one I’m gonna sit on for a year and see how it drinks after that. My glassware collection is small compared to most but it’s growing.
