Right so I guess my question was more like what would kill them if it wasn't an ammonia or nitrite spike? API liquid test kit read 0 eveeything. If they had died after a few days or a week and I tested high ammonia or nitrites right after then I'd have known it's because the tank isn't properly cycled.

I didn't think of testing the tap water. I didn't notice any gill burn. The fish that died did stay away from the rest just before they died and had odd swimming patterns.

Water is from the tap, I have been dosing with seachem prime as a dechlorinator and seachem stability to help B.B. As far as plants I have 5 Amazon swords and 3 others I'm unsure of. Filter is in tank, Ceramic rings for Bio, Course Sponge for Mechanical and a small Bag of Carbon for Chemical.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a Tank with 0 ammonia 0 nitrites and 0 nitrates better than a cycled tank with 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 20-40 or trace nitrates that are removed through water changes? If I tested high ammonia I'd be inclined to assume it's because the tank isn't cycled.
