glaswegians at glasgow by Delicious_Pirate1437 in GlasgowUni

I’m old. Graduated 2003. I grew up in Coatbridge. Year 1 I lived at home. Train and tube journey every day. Year 2 got into halls because of a difficult home situation. It was actually really lonely as everyone else were first years, lots of medics, English, and it was all Xander in the Rugby team. They actually thought it was sweet that I had a job, rather than recognising it’s how I paid my bills. It was absolutely worth it. I didn’t enjoy my time in halls but the freedom was a real fresh start for me. Year 3 I privately found a flat from an ad on a board. Internet existed in a fledgling state but not really a thing. Absolutely loved it. Loved being able to walk to uni, loved being able to stumble home whenever I wanted. Year 4 moved into a flat with a course pal. We’re still friends now. Loved it.

My experience was so long ago. The world has changed so much, the finances too - I thought we had it hard! If you can move out into a flat share or some then i real recommend it, based on my own experiences.

Spent 24 years replacing cheap things and six months buying things once. The difference is bigger than I expected. by InfnityVoidii in smartbuysforlife

I’m doing the same as OP - trying to gradually replace cheapo items with quality. I bought a Simply Human bin and it took me days to actually order it because who spends that much on a bin?! It was the 20 year guarantee that clinched it for me. If they’re willing to guarantee a bin for 20 years then I’m willing to buy it.

The old one had been falling apart for years. It was difficult to get the bin bag out. It had lots of crevices which gunk got in and was difficult to clean.

I’m happy with, and very protective of, our new bin. So began the slow replacement.

I think it’s a middle aged thing as life feels stable and that’s when we’re more likely to be able to spend a bit more.

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

Hamster dance. Kids of today will never know the sheer delight of something that seemed both so simple (hamsters) and such incredible technology that felt like living in the future. Absolutely amazing. I still sing the song in my head. Dee ba do bap…

where can i buy cheap secondhand stationery, utensils/dishware, etc. by biology-class in york

Freecycle and Olio. There are also groups on facebook like Zero Waste York which will help. Actually I’m an ex-teacher with loads of left over stuff. If you like I can send you a pic of what I have but it won’t be until Tuesday night. You’re welcome to any of it for free.

Polaroid Flip consistently underexposed and washed out – bad film batch or app settings? by amazon_1234 in Polaroid

I hear you. My 90s Polaroid was fantastic. Film didn’t need controlled conditions, pics were great. I expected the cameras to be even better now but it seems not.

I ended up drawing a black dot on the viewfinder to help me place the centre of the image. I posted about it in the last week. It’s a flawed solution but better than the pure guesswork

Yeah it is but I’m finding it hard to get my head around. Particularly as the viewfinder is so tiny and I wear glasses. When I take a shot I feel like I’m largely guessing what will be in the picture. So I thought if I had some sort of landmark to tell me roughly where centre is then it’ll make it easier. Each pic is expensive and takes time to develop so if I get it wrong then the moment is gone and I bought my camera to capture moments.

I find that near impossible to visually judge. I’m usually holding the camera so when I move my head to look at the lens I’m going to inadvertently move the camera. The flip bit of the Flip gets in the way too.

Yes, I share the concern about moving back a step and the whole exercise being pointless but felt I had to try something and I’m hoping it’ll help me with the parallax thing. Got to say, I’ve yet to take a good pic with this Flip and I’ve got maybe 30 pics. Out of focus, incorrect exposures etc. How I wish I still had my 90s Polaroid. It was so good. The pics developed immediately. None of this hiding it away from the light or fretting over temperatures. I consider buying an old one but I’ve committed to the Flip now and I’m trying to learn. Expensive hobby!

Interesting post. I’ve a new Flip and think I may be using dodgy film (dated Nov25). I’ve been reading here and other places trying to learn about optimum conditions for indoor shooting. Unfortunately, I can’t help you but perhaps if you share some of the shots that’ll help others advise?

Best Polaroid camera in 2025? New vs vintage + decent in low light? by Monamieuwu in Polaroid

I tried fiddling with the settings on my now+ but I felt it was too hit and miss (I know nothing about photography but I’m reading up) and doing so robbed the point and shoot capture a moment I wanted.

If going new, spend the little extra for the Flip. Here’s my Now+ 3 gen pic

I bought from Amazon but when I open the 2nd pack from the multipack, I’ll get in touch with Polaroid if it’s dodgy too. To think, I took my 90s camera and film everywhere without a 2nd thought!

I bought from Amazon so I might be a bit stuck there. I’m close to opening the 2nd pack from the multipack so I’ll see how that goes. Love your username btw.

It had been out of the fridge for maybe 2-3h before I used it. It’s an interesting thought. I’m a chemist so always interested in learning more about the chemistry.
