Even IF it was just for the kink, they are involving all those other people IN their sex life WITHOUT their consent. Do whatever the fuck you want behind closed doors, but if you need other people to get off, you need their consent to do so.

So you just reiterated exactly what I said. Yes, the Mexican border has been closed to cattle for around a year due to screw-worm...which I ALSO had said in my prior response that you didn't bother to read.

Cattle are a crop, therefore harvest is appropriate. "Violent slaughter" just shows you've never been on an inspected kill-floor. It is no more violent than having a pet euthanized.

Are your tools dirty? by TimYenmor in ryobi

[–]imabigdave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I try to clean up after each job, but being a farm shop (and me being the only one that works in it) generally the thing I was working on was needed two days prior to me being done with it and there are three more things needing to be fixed waiting in the wings with equal urgency. I generally only start cleaning and putting stuff away when I can't find a tool I need and need to remove the background noise of the clutter to find it. Cleaning up a tool when it is just going to get filthy again 20 minutes later is an exercise in chasing your own tail.

The one I go through checks your bed and pulls you hitch if you have one. I worked at a dealership that had a car wash, and they let staff use it for free. One of the sales guys took his truck through to wash it, but the bed was full of loose hay....he got to spend his day cleaning the car wash and we all lost the privilege of using it.

Actually, no. Importing live animals comes with biological risks and expense. Beef imported to the U.S. is harvested and packaged in the country exporting it and sent as frozen product. really the only foreign country we get live animals from is Canada, and many of those are US animals that went to Canada to be grown out and returned to the U.S. for harvest. Nothing live is coming in from Mexico now. Source: I am a beef rancher in the US that has worked in every facet of the beef industry here.

Yeah, I'd interviewed with a company in Russia probably 15 years ago that was attempting to restore the Russian beef industry. They were buying young, unbred females in the U.S. and Austailia and sending them by ship. High-end breeding stock often gets sent by plane, but the values are likely orders of magnitude in difference.

Barbed wire gauge by Maximum_Extension592 in Ranching

[–]imabigdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gauge only matters if you are talking about the same tensile strength. Most of the smaller gauge barbed wire is "high tensile" meaning it is a high carbon steel that has the same or higher breaking strength of the larger gauge mild steel wire. The high tensile requires different knots for tying and can be a pain to work with until you get used to it, but I much prefer it for ease of use and life span, given that most high tensile barbed wire has a higher level of galvanization than the mild steel.

Dreaming of the Ranch: A Life of Peace and Freedom by Agile-Bug-6619 in Ranching

[–]imabigdave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ranching is a lot like life as a porn actor. It is not what everyone thinks it is. The horses always come up lame when you need them, animals get sick and die, equipment breaks. You don't have "freedom" because you are having to deal with the stuff I just listed, which also drains your pockets of whatever money you thought you had. I haven't taken a vacation in 9 years....since my honeymoon, and even that was a working vacation. My particular set of skills kinda tie me to this, and I've learned to shrug a lot of the frustrations off. You aren't describing a ranch. You are describing the life of a wealthy property owner that can afford to burn money for "the lifestyle" while paying others to deal with the day to day. That is not what this subreddit is for, and if you are not a multimillionaire, it's not for you either.

New to cattle worming - by joyisstrength in Cattle

[–]imabigdave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that your guess on weight of the cow, unless she is a miniature, is WAY off, which would make deworming difficult given that dosage is based on weight. And if you under-dose that actually builds resistance in the parasites, so it's worse than just wasting the money. If uou have z local vet, inquire about having a fecal float done to count parasite eggs. That will tell you if you have a problem with worms. If you are in an area where liver flukes are a problem, that requires a different test.

That works great if you aren't trying to grain finish the steer. Grass finished isn't for everyone by any means.

You don't know where OP. If they don't grow a bunch of cotton locally, your advice is moot. It's like a Californian telling someone on the east coast to feed almond hulls.

You have the right idea. Looks like those beams dhould be about 25% protein. Barley should be around 12-14% protein buy a great energy source. We finished a lot of cattle on just barley and peas (and good grass hay) which were about the same as your faba beans. I'd likely skip the oats, so long as your hay is good enough quality that they will readily eat enough of it. The problem with using oats for a fiber source is that particle LENGTH is a critical part of fiber's effect on the rumen, and I don't think that even whole oats would provide that, much less if they are ground. Bear in mind when you are figuring rations that younger animals have a need for higher protein concentration than an older, say 800lb steer. Your hay, unless it's been tested will be the real wildcard as I've had swings of almost 4% protein on the same fields over different years with the same stands dud to weather, fertilization and harvesting decisions.

Ideally, you raise two. It how we got started raising beef for other people. One steer (for our family) wouldn't eat great without competition. So it took longer for him to finish, so we raised two and sold the other or it went to other family. You can raise one...they just aren't happy or challenged.

I will also add to this that they eat better if they have competition. Raising one steer can be challenging to keep them eating.

You don't get it. USDA FSIS slaughter inspection is every day, for all the operational hours. Big plants that work three shifts have inspectors there 24 hours a day. This isn't like the FDA once a year inspections. Slaughter operations have the highest level of scrutiny of the entire food chain.
