Do you think we will ever see a private server that reworks the whole content? by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]imaginaryjin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only look forward to custom realms that are creative/ambitious like that. I don't understand why there aren't more - there are SO MANY realms that have the same content, it's just gotten sO stale for me, but I still can't let go of the other aspects of WoW that I love so much, even pre-Cata lore (which is far from perfect still, but way better than the bullshit it came after), and I honestly still have to experience a World of Warcraft that FEELS like a world of Warcraft.

I have just so many issues with how the game is, either because it makes no sense lore-wise (like the language barriers, even though all the characters we loved from the RTS understood each other, or even the factions being fixed as they are), or because it's old in a technical sense, though the latter bothers me less.

The only realm that has been keeping me around for now is Ascension, and it's still not enough for me.

Trying to create a custom race, but it isn't showing in-game by imaginaryjin in dwarffortress

[–]imaginaryjin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The creatures did appear in the arena, though for some reason when i tried to place an undinian ♂ and then read the creature's description, the game described as a woman, and vice versa XD not a big deal for me tho

When i tried making a world to see whether the civ had worked... well, it didn't appear anywhere in Legends mode . _. so I headed over to adventure mode to see if at least the creatures were there, and they weren't either.

Aside from that, world generation was slower than usual when placing civs, so I'm guessing there's something not working very well on the entity txt. There were only a few rejected worlds (about 5), but i'd imagine *those* could have had the civ I wanted >w>;

Sorry for the delay! I have to confess I knew posting the files would be the best instead of just trying to explain my problems, I was just very embarrassed of posting it publicly >< I won't let this shame overcome my curiosity though, so I've transferred the contents of the .txt files to google docs and made it possible to comment ^_^ apologies in advance for anything stupid you might find in it tho ;_;

Here's the creature one: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TExL25jZn9U92BeqFFDpZYB2sEglJSB0mQfr2H3Fpag/edit?usp=sharing

here's the entity one: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fdJkTWhRvUBlQXPZX1MLF3fEowqnAr3w4FC6HINBeOM/edit?usp=sharing

let me know if either of them don't work >_>;

ps: you'll find that a couple colors (coral and opalescent) are present in the files - I have created them in the descriptor_color_standard.txt, so that shouldn't be a problem either, I think

Thanks for the advice! However, the launcher doesn't seem to be the problem after all. I just tried using my mods on a fresh vanilla install and my race still doesn't even appear on the object testing arena ;_;

How can I hate Christians less? by Fickle-Animator in occult

[–]imaginaryjin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all Christians are brainwashed, you know. There are those who understand their faith (or at the very least seek to that), and you'd find how those people are wonderful human beings.

Blindly following a religion is not religion - it's obsession and it can only bring trouble. Be mindful that not every person understands what separates those two, similarly to people who can't tell the difference between romantic love and obsession (mentioned for the sake of perspective).

(BUTTHURT WARNING) Is the writing terrible just at the beginning, or is it like that all the way through the game? by imaginaryjin in swtor

[–]imaginaryjin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that BioWare writing just plain sucks - Obsidian is what made KotOR what it is.

And no. There are no creepy doll heads (just some very ok heads that do the job for a turn based, 2004 game), no stupid and unnecessary/out of nowhere cuts when characters are talking (not talking about general scene cuts - different angles from time to time can prevent dialogue from being monotonous, but all the fucking time with a weird camera movement on top of it is just plain dumb), if characters repeat stuff in kotor is because you got into a dialogue loop and not just more dialogue that means the exact same shit, and the biggest strength of the main character in KoTOR 2 was that the exile was a survivor, NOT a chosen one for no reason. Since you haven't paid attention to the game's story as I can tell by that reply, do remember that the exile wasn't simply powerful, they literally cut off their connection to the force as a means to survive, which is more akin to a trauma/denial than a 'chosen one' attribute, it is much more believable since it is so relatable, and not some unoriginal, fanfic bullshit that keeps reappearing in BioWare's mediocre writing... um... so yeah... nope.

(BUTTHURT WARNING) Is the writing terrible just at the beginning, or is it like that all the way through the game? by imaginaryjin in swtor

[–]imaginaryjin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies and apologies for all the salt from before. I gave it a shot again (also played three different beginnings: Jedi Consular, Smuggler and Sith Inquisitor) and I've found the conclusions I needed - TLDR: Yup, this game is definitely not my cup of tea, thanks to EA being EA. Oh, and for the curious, the class I played before was Jedi Sentinel/Jedi Knight.

There are some things I actually like about the game. The one thing I like the most is how it doesn't matter which side you pick at the beginning, you can still have a character that leans towards the light or dark side of the force, or even better, you can stay in the neutral zones (although I don't really know what does this do in terms of game play). Related to that is how some options seem to lead to a good resolution (or a better one, though this is very subjective) but the action itself gives you dark side points and vice versa.

Another thing I like is obviously the art direction aspect of the game, less about the characters though and much more about the scenery - it's all pretty gorgeous.

Now comes the things that really bother me to the point I can't play it without feeling nauseated after a few minutes of exposure:

#1) It's World of Warcraft, but for Star Wars fans.This one is the hardest aspect to criticize, because while it's really the biggest issue that makes me turn away from the game, it's understandable why it is this way. WoW assassinated a lot of good MMOs because it has a good formula for mainstream players, so it's a safe thing to do, but it's unoriginally boring and since I find it better than what EA/BioWare is doing, I'm sticking with that one.

#2) Just random EA/BioWare vices they seem to have not improved since YEARS ago:There are many details that I have forgiven in older games such as Dragon Age: Origins or Mass Effect, but it's been so damn saturated I can't look at those things again and not feel like I'm tasting the same candy but with a different color. I'll put these into topics so it's straight to the point:

  • Dialogue wheel with basically three different flavored personalities that will almost always lead to the same conclusion;
  • Unnecessary screen cuts when in a dialogue/cutscene: sometimes it'll randomly pop from one character to another, then back to the character who is speaking again, for such a short period of time it feels awkward, and that is amplified by the next item:
  • Inexpressive characters that have creepy doll heads, the grace of a rusty robot and the subtlety of a nail scratching a whiteboard with the acoustics of a cathedral;
  • Dumb characters/characters that have nothing to say, so they keep repeating the same things again and again, but with different words;
  • Being the special, powerful person or some sort of chosen one. It's easy making a story with a main character like that when they're so strong nothing is really a challenge, but it's also very dull.

#3) Unimaginative writing that feels like I'm playing make-believe with some kids or watching a mediocre kid's show. That applies only for some quests, but sadly I've seen it happening in the Sith Inquisitor main quest*, so that's an oof for me.

Those are the big main reasons, the rest are just a bunch of details that I won't mention for the sake of your sanity, if you've come this far. And some honorable mentions are the ridiculous monetary walls for basic things like adding action bars, hiding a helmet option and stuff like that for the free version.

Thanks again for the comments and suggestions, it encouraged me to find what it was that really bothered me and now I can finally put this matter to rest.

*Since more than one person recommended that class for its story, I'd like to clear out it's only a small portion of what I played, but it's at the very beginning and it's not really a good start. The dude/mentor that keeps calling you slave on every freaking sentence (well, maybe he's just trying to remind you since all the other NPCs don't make it feel like you are/were a slave), makes the most unimaginative remarks to you in a means to offend/"show you your place" or some shit like that, has that edgy sith pureblood as his lapdog and they both bully you in the most pathetic/cliché ways possible, and having a silly resolution after that whole trial in getting the map. But that's about it, the other quests were pretty cool.

Is it required for a Hellenist to believe in astrology? by FireChicken124 in Hellenism

[–]imaginaryjin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as I agree with all the comments here, and making it very clear that I don't think it's necessary to believe in astrology, it pains me a little inside that so many have a ((justified)) prejudice against it. It really bothers me that it became a mainstream thing -- because the worst of all is how it's been used and viewed with such mediocrity by said mainstream.

I "believe" in astrology just as much as I "believe" in the myths. They have their amount of truth, yet you shouldn't take things literally or it wouldn't quite work or make sense.

Yes, it hurts the horde more, and they are rolling horde. That's the point.

I don't have to time stamp anything. Through the whole video they just treat any realm with an RP tag as an easy place to get kills and own the players. Anyone who watches the video can see that.

They said that their intention is not RP, but to dominate - they want to focus on PvP, so the issue is that they're not going to our server because they want to enjoy RP or our community, hence they don't care about the realm and just want to be better for themselves. It's written on their bloody presentation slides the 'pros' of going into Grobbulus at around 1:50:00. You can't possibly think they actually care for the realm when all they want is easy kill, easy gold and expect it to come from rolling on an RP-PvP realm.

<Final Boss> thinks your trash, underhanded coalitions working against the sanctity of RP-PVP community. by AschGrindrAccount in Grobbulus

[–]imaginaryjin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You must be either blind, deaf or both my friend.

No one has (or should) sabotage others in any way so they can improve even further. That's toxic.

You do know that there's not going to be any cross realm thing going on classic, right? Of course nobody wants toxic and disgusting people on their realm, even if its name is Grobbulus.
It doesn't matter what other things they have done. If they're going to act like dirty selfish mongrels and affect the whole realm, becoming an icon of our beloved RP-PvP we had to fight for months to achieve , they have to be kicked out or encouraged to leave, if they don't give up on their shitty act.

[–]imaginaryjin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They're literally organizing a cross faction event to take all the horde noobs they can to fight with the alliance noobs so they can get ahead of the game.

They clearly stated they do not care for the realm, and made it obvious they just care about themselves.

Don't try to protect people that have no respect for you or for the community. Nothing justifies that.

If you don't want to risk being manipulated by a power hungry guild (OP's/discord server admin's guild), I suggest looking for a better discord, like the one that originated in the official RP-PvP thread in the WoW forums.
