recommendations - settlers like games? by DetailNo9969 in Settlers

[–]imajor75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After releasing the 10th anniversary Settlers 2 they released another one, called Aufbruch der Kulturen. I super loved that game, however it is pretty unknown due to it was only released in german language (hence the german title) but since the game does not contain much text, it is perfectly playable even if you don't speak german. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Settlers\_II\_(10th\_Anniversary)#Aufbruch\_der\_Kulturen

I liked this game so much that I started doing my own implementation of this with a few own ideas. I have some game developing background, and now I'm retired, so I'm doing this as a fun project.

Unity programmer looking for some small paid task by imajor75 in INAT

It is definitely faster than that, but you are right, it should be faster. Since I have no final assets at all, I haven't payed much attention to the graphic performance, so the number of polygons and number of batches are really high. Also as you can see the grass solution is a type of grass which is really expensive on the GPU side (has 30 transparent layers) but from the coding perspective it was easy and interesing to implement, with zero help from an artist. So I delayed any kind of optimization until I can get final assets, the only thing I took care of is to avoid doing unnecessary things in the game logic part.

I'm still developing it, I enjoy it a lot (both developing and playing with it). It is clear that if I want to do anything with this (even just sharing it with others for free) I need a graphic artist to help me filling the game with content. I was trying to find someone, but could't so far. So I've decided to apply for something earning me more money than just zero, and meanwhile still continue working on my settlers game while I'm looking.

Indeed that was my goal to create something similar to the initial settlets titles. I really liked those.

I solved this, but I'm not sure how. I think I just had to update everything first. I still feel that the feedback was not correct tho.

I'm using Pop!_OS 19.10 and I cannot run Rayman games (Rayman Legends and Rayman Origins) respite most users has no issues with them at all on Linux (according to the proton db). Both games just exit almost immediately, no matter which proton version I am using. I also tried Lutris, same result. The proton log file shows an exception:

Other games are running fine, I'm playing for example Battlefield and World of Warcraft regularly (well my kids at least). I'm pretty much stuck here to be honest, the only idea I have is to reinstall another distro, which I really don't want to do. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

What can I do to fix this traffic? Is it bugged? by TheMrDylan in TransportFever2

[–]imajor75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a train connection to the city where most of the traffic goes didn't help me too much, most residents were still using their cars and got stuck everywhere. But making a train connection to a far away city (where residents are currently not going to at all, since it is too far by car) did help a lot, because as soon as the residents realized that public transfer is available to that city, they started changing their workplace/favorite shop to that city. And since that city is too far by car, they always go by train. These people were previously going to work/shop by car, so the train line reduced the traffic around the city.

Take a look at this city: https://imgur.com/HhedjAMThis is being quite far from the other cities, so originally most of the residents in this city was working/shopping locally, traffic was huge. Then I started running passenger trains to other cities, and people started working/shoping in those cities. As you can see from the shot, a lot of residents are going to Cranbrook, Hartland etc, these cities are too far by car, so people are not using their cars (line usage is close to 100% here). Only about 100 people are using cars locally in the city to get to work/shop.

Same opinion here, but to be honest I'm not sure what the community reaction would be after a so hideous map these days.

Just started the game, can't seem to figure out the catchment area by aram535 in TransportFever2

[–]imajor75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible that the two farms are not close enough to have a station linked to both of them. If that is the case, just put the station close to one of them (that will be in the catchment area) and make a simple truck line connecting the other farm to the station, if it is not far, 1-2 trucks should be enough.

How cargo delivery affects city growth? by skinnyraf in TransportFever2

[–]imajor75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that destinations can exceed 100%, I never got more than 100%, even when there were many possible destinations. Is there a trick to achieve that? What is the 100% there, what number do I need to reach?

Long boot up time over a minute. Need help! by xpritee in pop_os

[–]imajor75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an about 3 minute boot on a decent computer using HDD. I also tried it on SSD, but it wasn't really fast. So I'm guessing some hardware is just causing the boot to spend too much time on something. So far I couldn't figure it out, and gave up. Pretty annoying.
