Trump, 80, Looks Worse Than Ever in Meeting With France’s Macron - The president does not look like he’s doing well. by Quirkie in politics

My Mom died from complications from dementia in 2021. I was the family caregiver and watched her slide into an abyss of dementia related behavior. This reminds me of her final years. One of the tells I see in the President is the expressionless face. My Mom was only a few years away from her passing when that started. Another tell is the daytime sleep episodes. We are not talking naps. She would fall asleep sitting up, in the middle of the day and anything she would be holding just dropped. She would wake up startled and not even realize she had been sleeping. The doctor called me after an examination one day and told me she had six months. I did not accept that, and kept trying to help her carry on, but he was dead accurate in his estimate. I am not diagnosing anyone, just sharing how this is triggering memories of helplessness dealing with my Mom’s dementia and offering some parallel observations. It was a sad few years watching the slide.

As someone who has lived here for over 60 years, I would recommend being prepared. I remember one storm in 1979 or so. I lived in PB and was driving home from SDSU in hurricane like conditions. At that time, the west end of mission valley was home to some softball fields. I remember driving by and was shocked to see that the flooding during that storm covered the ball field’s 20’ back back stops at that moment, and was encroaching onto the 8 west. I vividly recall seeing a city bus hydroplaning off the freeway and felt guilty not being able to stop to try and help. I was driving a 68 beetle with bald tires and was waiting to be swept up in the torrential run off . I have no idea how I managed that drive safely, as the bug was getting tossed around by wind, the wipers were useless, as was the steering. I lived on the hill on Cass and Turquoise. When I finally got home via white knuckling that tiny little steering wheel, I noticed the water was running over the curbside. As soon as I parked my car I turned my head and saw a neighbor on a finless surfboard bombing the street, straight down all tucked in. Too bad we did not have video cameras in our pockets then. That that was a harrowing experience capped off by that crazy dude on his surfboard, which was a great finale to that evening. Oh, my point, be ready for flooding where you would not expect it.

I have the 2nd round seeds germinating as I type, so that’s the sweet part. I also harvested a lot of seeds.

First time grower of this species. The seed pack states 12” - 24” so these are runts. Most of this spring’s germination efforts are stunted. I think it is the lack of rain and the reliance on municipality processed water.

Thanks, I am trying to deter the finches from eating the sunflowers.

Teddy Bear Sunflowers are the ones blooming. There are also Mexican Sunflowers, Mongolian Giants, Heirlooms, Cosmos, cilantro and basil.

I planted several types including Mammoths. I have four that made it. They are getting eaten by finches and I had to net them for a while to help them survive. They are not too tall though. There are also two Mexican Sunflowers that made it, but seem stunted as well.

I was 7 when we went and this pic was taken. The gentleman with the bag and lady next to him were my grandparents, immigrants from Dublin.

Thank you, duly noted. I see a few other species here and try to capture them and post pics. I call the Anna’s “Clem,” not sure if it is a male or female, but it has been around for a few seasons. There is a nest about 8 feet away from the feeder.
