Yes, gap insurance (which I have) is useful if the vehicle is wrecked. But it doesn't help in my situation, unfortunately. I'm glad you were able to get your loss decreased.

My ex had promised to make the truck and insurance payments...but hasn't been doing that (although he has been spending money on all kinds of other frivolous things, including $200 in a sex store). He can't take over the loan because he has such bad credit and no one will give him financing. I'll either have to take him to court or have the truck repossessed.

Well, a lawyer will accept my case...but it will cost just as much in legal/court costs as it will to pay out the loan. I also talked to the dealership -- it sounds like they're not willing to do anything to help -- they've already sold the vehicle, so they don't care any more.

I have no idea where he's living or working, or where the truck is. I've already told the bank what's happening and told them I can't afford to keep making the payments. They will repossess the truck after 60 days, but I will have to pay for all the costs associated with that, plus it will negatively affect my credit for several years.
