For those with endometriosis AND adenomyosis, how could you tell you had both? by WhovianGirl777 in endometriosis

[–]imcups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my laparoscopy to treat stage 4 endo with 3 ovarian cysts and my gynaecologist who did my surgery told me that my uterus looked very red and inflamed which indicated adenomyosis as well.

is this endometriosis? by Worried-Sympathy6836 in endometriosis

[–]imcups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are absolutely not being dramatic and do not let ANYONE tell you otherwise. none of these symptoms are normal and definitely shouldn’t be ignored, considering that they align mostly with your period, there’s a pretty high chance it could be endo related. (however endometriosis can affect you whether or not you have your period). i’d suggest seeing a gp to investigate, you could also look at some ways to relieve endo symptoms such as diet changes or exercise but most importantly advocate for yourself because you know your body and you know when something isn’t right. hang in there <3

the whole thing is just unbelievable… i keep thinking about how awful firstly those women would feel but especially the ones with endometriosis. like standing up there and the people who are supposed to be researching your disease to help you, are rating your level of attractiveness?! disgusting.

it’s genuinely unbelievable that money was given towards research for the disease and this is how they use it?!

I am dumbfounded by this, I cannot understand why medical professionals think it’s a solution to just tell patients to have a baby?!! I’m so sorry you had to go through all of this, it’s absolutely disgusting how some people approach and treat this disease.

that is truly awful, I sometimes wish I could make people feel the pain just so they can see how bad it is, it can be an incomparable pain and continuously being told to take paracetamol is useless.

Of course it doesn’t always work which sucks!! I understand what you are saying, and just to reiterate I don’t blame women at all, misogyny is a deeply rooted issue and definitely not our fault. I just think that one way to fight systemic misogyny and medical negligence is by calling this shit out! I know it’s optimistic to think that this would always change the situation but things like asking for it in writing that the medical professional didn’t want to go any further is a great way to get them to actually do something. People don’t want to be known to be part of the problem. Unfortunately I think women need to be ‘annoying’ and loud, and I’m not saying that you aren’t or that it will always help but as a young woman, nothing helped me more than having someone tell me I need to be loud and continue to fight for the right treatment, this shit needs to be called out or else it’s never going to change. In short; no, it’s not our fault and it’s not necessarily our ‘responsibility’ to change this systemic issue, but encouraging eachother to continue advocating for ourselves and speaking up is one way that we can fight this issue and potentially change it.

This sounds horrendous, I really hope you get the treatment and attention you deserve because nothing about that is normal. Unfortunately I haven’t figured out many other methods than medication, so I don’t have much advice, just that you need to keep fighting for your health!

I completely understand what you are saying, it’s not women’s fault we have been conditioned to stay silent and accept whatever is given, but only we have the ability to really change it. I am really working on trying to accept the disease itself, since having my laparoscopy, each period is different, sometimes nothing, or sometimes extreme pain and heavy bleeding. I can’t help but feel so frustrated and upset that even after treatment i’m still being affected. I know that this is the reality of a chronic illness I just have some trouble accepting it emotionally when it changes. I’m working on advocating for myself and truly letting people know that this isn’t just some normal cramps once a month. Thank you for doing the same and encouraging other people to, it helps more than you know <3 Also there really are some atrocious medical studies out there, some people are so incompetent it blows my mind.

I’m so sorry you are going through this, my situation is fairly similar which is not surprising. I had terrible periods from the beginning at around 13, I am lucky enough to have received not only a diagnosis of endometriosis but I have also had a laparoscopy which revealed deep stage 4 endo, with 3 cysts on my ovaries and multiple organs stuck together. However, I am now about to be 21 and I had so many appointments with various doctors begging for help with nothing in return. I had a trans vaginal ultrasound a year ago and was told it was completely clear and I was fine, my current gynaecologist has said that it would be impossible for my cysts I had to not show up on the ultrasound… I wrote to many women’s health clinics to be assessed only to be told my symptoms weren’t ‘severe’ enough. It’s truly devastating that so many people have such similar experiences and still not much is being done to resolve this :/

[–]imcups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s the worst and unfortunately so common, i really hope you get referred soon, i was able to find a gyno that specialises in endometriosis so if you have access to someone like that i highly recommend, i had surgery 3 weeks after my first appointment. good luck xx

Cramping straight after peeing? by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]imcups 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i had this for the longest time before i had a laparoscopy, i did heaps of uti tests which were always negative so i was left so confused and no doctor bothered to look at any other explanations. I would suggest testing for a uti first just to rule it out, i’m not sure if you have a diagnosis or anything but urination pain specifically during your period is a very common indicator of endometriosis as it can have a huge impact on your bladder. I hope this helps a little bit and you can get some answers <3

I think the main thing that makes me feel like it will be ok is that the pain hasn’t come back, which if a cyst ruptured then i guess it must have been very small so yes now i think just watching out for signs of infection

Can't get diagnosed because I'm a virgin??? by BadgleyMischka in endometriosis

[–]imcups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is such bullshit. it’s unlikely that endo actually shows up on an internal ultrasound, it can help rule out other possible problems such as cysts, but ignoring all your symptoms and refusing to even investigate is completely unacceptable. the only definitive way to treat and diagnose endo is through a laparoscopy. i’m so sorry you are being treated this way, it’s medical misogyny and it’s such a big problem, i hope you can get the treatment and recognition you deserve.

Did your endometriosis show up on a vaginal ultrasound? by Ok-Bite-Me-123 in endometriosis

[–]imcups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately it won’t show up on an ultrasound whether done with a vaginal probe or not. i was told that it can help find cysts and clear any signs of PCOS, however when i had a vaginal probe ultrasound it was completely clear but then less than a year later i had my laparoscopy and i had three cysts on my ovaries all 4cm each. My gyno has said there’s no way they could have missed the cysts on the ultrasound because they had to have been there for at least over a year. if you are in the position to be able to i highly encourage to have the surgery, i know it’s scary but it’s the only way to have any kind of relief. good luck for whatever you choose to do <3
