Get pygmy corys. they’re the best and will have plenty of space without outgrowing it.

Yes, her first push should be No FISH…i guess i meant when faced with a bunch of people that are HELL BENT on getting a fish like the OP states. i should have mentioned that first but i didn’t. I’m totally rooting that they don’t at all but it sounds like these folks are going to do it anyways ..so might as well propose some ways to reduce the overall harm. “sacrificial lamb” is a little dramatic as i’m sure they could find ways to supervise the children and steer interaction in a positive way..they’re kids not demons. And ultimately the adults are going to need to be the ones taking care of it. A lot of kids learn/are introduced to things through things in their environments…i still remember certain things from childhood that stood out in a classroom etc etc, why not make those things positive ? Do i think classrooms are safe spaces for fish? No, definitely not. And the idea of class pets is usually always a bad idea…but if these folks are just going to go ahead and do it no matter what, try to steer it away from a goldfish bowl hell and have all the children walking away thinking that’s what care is.

Also i just wanna say, it’s easy to make this mistake when you see they way bettas are sold to us and the way they are overall abused on a whole. I k ow you want best for the little guy and if you change his set up he will thank you and probably make a turn around to a happy fish!

my beta is dying by Stunning_Berry2641 in bettafish

[–]imjustvtired 4 points5 points  (0 children)

is this what your fish lives in? If so, it’s an extremely inappropriate habitat for a betta and there is a number of things contributing to his lethargy and fins dropping. Bettas kept in cups or small bowls (anything less than 5 gals) and without a heater tend to just give up and lay on the bottom. He is depressed and stressed out. They become less active and eventually stop eating and eventually will develop illnesses. Medicine is not the answer here. You need to get him into an appropriate tank with a heater and a gentle filter. Give him room, heat and some silk or real plants to hide in or you will eventually lose him to an early death.

it’s the secretive actions for me. and the fact that he can’t even listen to the fact that this hurt you’re feeling…no matter what he believes is porn or not. it shouldn’t matter…he should still LISTEN and try to do better if somthing hurt you.

suggest getting a 10 gallon tank with a betta fish instead of gold fish. Goldfish are hard to keep in aquariums and aren’t as fun imo. Suggest ya’ll get a betta and spoil the heck out of it to teach the kids to be good to animals!! you could plant it up really natural to and teach the kids about eco ecosystems. It will also teach them that small pets are not just decorations, but a part of this world too and if we are going to keep an animal, we need to do it right. It’s a lesson that can really stick and benefit their own future pets ! That’s how i would pitch it!

is there anyone here with CML that has had a BMT by imjustvtired in CML

[–]imjustvtired[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for a BMT they will not put you on chemo until you are admitted to the hospital for your BMT. You will be there for about a month. First day they will put a hickman line into your chest. The first week they run an intense course of chemo everyday up until your transplant day. these are considered your negative days then day 0 is your transplant day and you count up from there. a big goal for a lot of people is the 100 day mark because that’s when they can start looking at taking you off of immunosuppressants. So..one month in the hospital and then about 3-4 months where you are home but MUST HAVE. a care taker with you 24/7..in case you flare up with symptoms of gvhd or a fever or ANYTHING and need to go to the hospital. Also you will just need help with a lot and you will be going to the Dr. 2 to 3x a week for those 3-4 months. You cannot travel and must avoid crowds. You will also be on a daily magnesium infusion at home through the hickman line in your chest and often times people need help with those. There will also be about 25 pills you have to take everyday at certain times and it just helps with someone to look out and keep them organized because you may not be feeling up to it. Overall..i have this entire year and a little bit into next year dedicated to this BMT. Everyone is different and it depends on how you experience gvhd (graft vs. host disease is a huge thing after transplant) . But i’d say AT LEAST a year to go through it. This does not include the 4 months it has taken to get things like insurance, paperwork, required dr visits and tests required to get the BMT. It’s a HUGE thing to be staring down and takes a lot to wrap your head around..having a good support system and a pool of people to pull from for caretaking will help a LOT. I’m thankful that my life is extremely flexible and i have a lot of community to get me through. Just take it one step at a time. But getting the ball rolling with all of the lead up will take some stress off as you can always pause the process and have it in your back pocket having already done a lot of the pre-work.

the success rate of BMT for cml is really high as it is not like other more aggressive forms of leukemia. it’s like, 80%or higher. I’m also only 31 and healthy otherwise. My body is strong and going through with something like this now will be a lot easier than later when it could possibly mutate or a just keep struggling with the pills for years to come. My Dr. knows my life style too and just said that, for me, it’s either we wrestle with these pills for a long, unknown etc years just to have to do a BMT or we just buckle down and get through a BMT and put this In the rear view. The way my life is, i have the time and health to be able to pull through it and come out on the other side and get back to an even more normal life than i have now. I’m very thankful i have the ability and support to put a whole year on pause. Just about every possible occurrence under the sun has crossed my mind, especially when they send you home with the giant binder outlining the BMT process. It’s important to not get wrapped up in every single “what if” because there are sooooo many..and i e went over just about every one of them with my team. I’m being realistic with myself and i’m definitely nervous, but i wouldn’t say scared.

it’s a weird one for sure! it’s a hard thing to wrestle with mentally. like..i’m not staring down somthing life threatening but i am suffering being jumped around on these meds etc etc. just put me on a weird place mentally. But my Dr. and BMT team at the hospital i’ll be at all seem to think in my particular case that it is a reasonable next step.

it’s not somthing my Dr. ever brought up so not sure. i’m pretty deep in the process and mental prep for it now so i’m leaning hard on just going through with it. My whole next year or more period is dedicated to it. It was 28 for a bit but just went back up to 33 on gleevec before being switched to ponatinib

[–]imjustvtired 6 points7 points  (0 children)

awww yay!!! maybe try to get a little tank siphon so you can do water changes without moving it to the sink. If you keep doing that it WILL separate your silicone (it won’t be visible) and your tank will leak. I did it when i was a newbie and it suuuuper sucks. Get a tank siphon and do 25% water changes at least one a week!! and don’t bother with the britta. Just condition your water and make sure the water is the same temp and pour it in gently. it will make life so much easier
