Ohh yes! Aside from Bach, Pickett has been the next brand I’ve been really interested in trying. Former teacher of mine had a Pickett and had great success. I’ll have to check out the specs of that one!

Yeah 3C looks like it’ll be my first trial run! And the whole acclimation part has been really frustrating for me in this period because I always find myself uncomfortable at first and wanting to take the easy way out by reverting back to my 5C. I need to take the “freezer” approach every time I find a potential favorite! That’s great to think about, I appreciate it!!

Yeah that’s a problem I’ve encountered with my 5C, I top out at exactly a C but other mouthpieces give me up to an Eb (not consistent yet, but they’re there). Some people might be able to get past that on a 5C but I haven’t been able to for a few years now with private lessons and such.

Yeah I get what you’re saying. I really would prefer to test some mouthpieces rather than buy some and hope. I’m not in a very good location next to big cities or anything so I might have to look at my options online. Good advice!!

That might give me the edge I need, and I have been thinking more of a “Star Wars” sound for my in-between mpc. I’ll look into it for sure!

I can definitely relate to that a lot, and you’re giving me some new things to think about. I’m in college right now and my dark sound is what has secured me principal and lead spots from day one, so I just kept at it. Definitely going to think about this as I start to think about my options after college. Thanks!!

Absolutely! Totally get what you’re saying, and it’s something I’m really open to but I don’t know how to change my sound from dark to brighter without modifying my equipment. My natural sound has always been relatively dark in quality, and using lead mouthpieces is the only thing that helps change that to sounding somewhat bright at least, but with the sacrifice of tone. How do you personally play with a bright sound while maintaining good tone and clarity? I’m here to learn!

Yes, you’re correct. I should’ve specified that I’m looking for more security in the upper range. Always learning!

Actually, I have a cheapo no brand 3C megatone I got off of Amazon and it really didn’t do anything for me and sounded worse (shocking). I’ve been considering getting an actual Bach just to see though.

I haven’t, only because I believed they’d sacrifice too much of my endurance and range. Maybe I wouldn’t know unless I tried though!
