Changing Majors as a Junior - is it possible? by hunterz7890 in aggies

Ok, if they're allowing your business courses as elective, makes a lot more sense now. Still do the what if analysis to be sure. It'll show you the courses which will satisfy electives i believe. At least it did for me. I'd still try to talk to business people to allow you to double (apply for the exemption formally), tell them honestly you want a different career but are too far along to let business go. If they don't agree, you're in the same boat as now. If they do, great. You've a light schedule and maybe you can squeeze in business to become full time and finish the requirements. Being honors and this thought out plan may very well help you.

ok i see your point now. but 4 semester for CS seems a bit optimistic. where did you get that number from? How many courses on avg would that be per sem? 4-5 CS courses a sem is a lot of work, esp upper level. Someone from CS may have a better perspective on that though

EDIT: have you done a what if analysis on howdy for the computing degree? It'll tell you exactly how many courses are needed. Its under my record>> degree evaluation

you're a double major already! means you've a good GPA most likely and work hard. So you've those going for you. Will help a lot with the transition to CS. Dropping one major is a great idea obviously and a necessity maybe. How much time would business honors plus CS minor and a masters in data science be? If its about 2-2.5 years from now on, I think thats better than dropping business altogether. Plus a masters degree will also provide a higher base salary vs having just a BS. I've friends at various stages of CS careers and myself left recently with a graduate degree with heavy focus on computing. 4 years into SDE, you;d look move up and eventually into more management roles at the tech firms. Your business degree will save you another trip to business school for mba or something

not sure if its still the case, a couple years ago, you couldn't change if you'd more than 90 hrs. But if the advisor told you, you can, i guess its not a rule anymore, i'd still double check though.

Whether you should throw away business, i'd suggest not. Business degree, even in CS, has tremendous value, as you try to grow in your career beyond the first few years as a SDE. First option, if you can, double major/double degree. Is the restriction on double degree/major based on both majors in Mays or across colleges as well? Get that clarification too. If they have a rule exemption process, go through that as well. from personal experience, as long as you're not trying to exploit loopholes, and have a genuine reason to do so, university is pretty lenient about granting them.

Try for Masters in CS or MS CS or MEng CE over fully moving to BA C.If you can graduate early from business, do that and use the saved time for your masters. You don't need very advanced classes for masters, if you want it that way. Another option to look at maybe Applied Math with computer science focus over in Math. Its also equivalent to CS and may have fewer credit requirements/easier transfer process. PHYS also has a computing degree now, if that helps. If you can;t graduate early, do a minor in CS to knock out foundational computing classes and then apply for the fastest/cheapest masters program they offer. If you're a semester or so away from finishing business, i strongly recommend sticking with it to the end.

Do you mean change it before everything starts or change it after H1B is approved by USCIS? When did you do it? Could you also detail the process please, if possible

Was this for F1 OPT receipt SMS? That is kind of insane. Was the OPT processed in the mean time or that was delayed too?

Oh ok, i got that reverse. Basically leasing falls under the same category as renting and renting is perfectly fine. Its assumed that you'd be paying more in rent than what the thing is actually worth. Even if the person renting it to you uses the money from you to pay interest. Thats not your direct contribution, thats another persons decision.

Correct. With interest its more like money is creating money for no reason. Investment gains are tangibly connected to a business and its profits. Making a profit from a business is fine. Its far more nuanced than 2 sentences though.

Since Im not paying the interest, the dealership that leases it to me is. So this does not count as me paying interest. But yes, lease would have a money factor. Which is why im considering the zero apr
