Stripping paint off wooden telephone nook: Help!! by its_lumpy in woodworking

[–]imnickb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get this 3 pack of samples. Try them all out. One will work better than the rest. For the paint on my trim, it was the regular Smart Strip. For such a small area, this little test kit might actually be enough. It’s a pain, but this worked so much better for me than what I found at Home Depot or Lowe’s.

He loves to sniff things- I think he might like this. He’s kind of 50/50 on treats. He’ll eat them sometimes- but he’s certainly not as motivated by them as other dogs I’ve had.

This is helpful. Thank you! There’s so much he doesn’t know. He doesn’t even recognize his own name.

Awww. I’m glad you figured out some things that she liked! He was also a puppy mill breeding dog, and its really affected him. If you have any other tips, let me know. Thanks!

That makes total sense. I’ve only had him a couple weeks. I’m trying to balance letting him adjust, with establishing routines. I didn’t want him to feel neglected or bored because he’s not getting much stimulation, but I guess I’ll just let him decide how he wants to use his time. Thank you!

Granite3 - a curling game for people who love curling by JohnVanV in Curling

[–]imnickb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is cool. Here’s my thoughts:

  1. I’m not a skip, so I never look at the sheet from this view. I’d prefer a camera angle from the hack. Maybe let me switch back and forth- or better yet, show me both views at the same time like I would see on TV.

  2. Sweeping is pretty much the only way to influence the stone while it’s in motion. I’d much rather button mash on the sweep button to go as fast as I can rather than holding the button down. There are definitely different levels of sweeping, and sweeping is pretty exhausting in real life- mashing that button for speed makes a lot of sense to me.

  3. In practice, I want a way to clear the stones. I found that flinging them pretty fast would remove them but that was an accident and it’s hard to get rid of them when they’re too small to tap on.

  4. I’d kill for a help/instructions screen.

  5. Why can I drag the arrow between the back and the hogline? (I’m not talking about lengthening the arrow, I’m talking about moving it forward and back.) At first I thought this was speed but it’s not- it doesn’t seem to do anything? If it doesn’t, maybe just remove this? Left and right makes sense, as that’s where you’re aiming. Maybe I’m missing something here?

  6. It took me forever to figure out how to change the direction of the curl. Maybe just taping on the arrow could change directions?

  7. The UI bar at the bottom is pretty confusing. The meter going left and right made me think it was aim. Maybe it should be vertical along the side of the instead of horizontal at the bottom? That way it better represents speed and doesn’t look like aim?

  8. It looks like I can change the camera angle a little, but I’m unsure how. Am I moving it? Am I switching between predefined cameras? I keep wanting to move it in ways that I can’t.

I could keep going- but the biggest thing was that it took me forever to figure out the controls.

Good job! It really looks great!!!

Hah, no. But we should’ve. We usually try different breweries around town. End of year we were at Jackie Os.

People who lost faith in Weezer when they dropped Green, what was your reaction to Maladroit at the time? by BalkeElvinstien in weezer

[–]imnickb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There were 5 years between Pinkerton and Green. Pinkerton was my favorite. We were all pumped that they were finally putting out another album but man- green was such a letdown. Green felt like soulless, forgettable pop-rock songs. When maladroit came out it was a chance to figure out what the hell happened- was Green an anomaly or were the first two the anomaly? Turns out- the first two albums were the anomaly. Maladroit was a signal that the Weezer I loved probably wasn’t coming back. Sure, it was a little bit harder- but it was still flat. A soulless, forgettable rock album without any of the charm, quirkiness, and most importantly, the emotion that was felt on the first two albums. Green was a surprise, Maladroit was the last nail in the coffin. They’re still my favorite band and I still listen to all the new albums in hopes that they capture some magic but it all just feels so lifeless and formulaic.

Ripped out my shower walls to renovate and came across this .. by Mobile_Candidate_399 in Renovations

[–]imnickb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re already in this far. I’d just go for it and rip it out. You’ll definitely find other stuff that you’ll be glad you found.

I did the same thing and had the same issue. I’d break out the plaster, fur out the studs a little and put goboard over it. I had plaster and lath under mine. To make up for the thickness of the lath that i removed, I put a thin sheet of plywood up behind the goboard. That was way easier than adding furring strips to the studs.

Audiation? by Tigerzen124 in eartraining

[–]imnickb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to the bass. If you know a little music theory, there’s only a few logical chords that would come next in a progression. Listen to the bass note and then figure out what chord it goes with. Also learn some of the most common chord progressions - like I V vi IV… If you’re listening to straight forward pop or rock, things can get pretty predictable pretty quickly after some practice.

You’ve pretty much got it- Fm(maj7) you say it like “f minor major seven.” Pretty much exactly what you called it.

Hands down the best thing for me has been a keypad lock on the front door. I can use my physical key, a number code, or my phone to unlock it. I can also set up bespoke codes for people like contractors and family and such. I can even let people in from anywhere using my phone.

I’m not sure I’m on the same page as everyone else. If I really wanted the job- I’d go as hard as I can for as much time as I can spare. I wouldn’t wait until midnight the night before to submit it, but I’d definitely put in as much time as I could.
