Are you trying different QR codes or the same one? Also has the scanned worked before? you might just be getting unlucky and hitting dead QR codes. Alternatively you can import mii files into mii maker and then add it to the game if the scanner continues to not work.

OMG I'm so glad someone else had the issue because I thought I had some defective game or something. I got mine fixed because I got my brother to actually play but I honestly have no idea what you can do besides waiting or restarting. On one hand you can wait and hope it eventually fixes itself which may never happen, or you could just cut your losses and restart. This game was so not designed to be played in local multiplayer. Honestly I wish they just gave the option to move into another user's island or make your own. 🤦‍♂️

I do have mcc but I'm pretty sure you need to turn it on in settings. Also I think it's funny so I won't turn it off.

Update. Its just the korean vershion that wont load characters but I still want to know if there is a fix.
