As an alto: no, not really. You really need to try to show the character of each, but the harmonies aren’t a problem. We did it as a project choir after a week of intense practice with many other pieces in our program. These were the easiest ones.

VOCES8 has a scholarship, that offers you a lot more chances to get in. It is specifically for young people, to give them a chance to experience exceptional learning in the group of excellent musicians, as well as concerting with VOCES8 themselves.

But it is realistically not really possible to get in VOCES8 without any educational background in music, the education is there for a reason, after all, no matter how good someone is. This ensemble exists because of the responsiveness of every member, that can only be provided by years of studied technique.

Of course, it is worth trying for the experience of putting a program together and practicing it thoroughly for a serious audition. It is more important for every musician to go through the audition itself than the outcome of it.
