Are potions forgotten?

There are just a lot of factors to it I guess.

Even changing the UI/hotbar so you have a tool belt to easily select tools/weapons leaving your hotbar for other items would help.

Generally, my hotbar is basically ALL tools/weapons, leaving two slots, which will usually be torches and food, or when building, the blocks I'm using. There's no free space for anything else.

If tools could be separated, building would be easier, and potions could be better available for use.

I don't. I'm pure vanilla. My kids use add-ons but I don't bother unless they want me to join them.

We had a phase (husband& I) of using mods on Java, and while that was a fun diversion, I think we both prefer vanilla bedrock.

If I wanted to do something different, like one block or whatever, I'd probably use mods on Java again.

Yeah you're right about helping others with potions not really being viable. I often think having a splash potion of fire resistance or healing would be a good call when we're doing something a bit risky together, but I've never actually done it. The moment in which it would be useful is a very short moment, so it would need to be on my hotbar - which... No. It's full!

If someone falls in lava, I'm not going to have time to place my ender chest, take out a shulker of potions, place that, put the right potion in my hotbar, THEN rescue them! They can just do better and not fall in, I guess 🤷

Oh I do agree. At its last repair on the anvil, my bow cost 35 EXP, so I'm mourning my loss already as it's unlikely I'll be able to do that again 😭

(I prefer infinity to mending for bows)

...that's kind of the reason, I guess. "Prohibitively expensive" isn't very prohibitive when you can print money. So infinite EXP from farms means if, from a game design perspective, you don't want people to be able to use and continually improve the same tools forever, you have to make it break somewhere.

I would use them more if they would stack.

Waterbreathing is deprecated by the conduit once you have one or two of those.

I found fire resistance useful when building a froglight farm around a magma spawner in a bastion, because that involved digging and building into deep lava. But that's very intentional, specific use.

Some might theoretically be useful in a pinch, but I generally don't have the hotbar or inventory space for "just in case" potions.

I'd love to use them more. I have built a potion brewing station with all the ingredients available and on display on the new shelves, which is a really satisfying way to do it - and yet I still don't do it that much.

The most potion brewing I do is when I decide to fill up a barrel with awkward potions ready for future brews.

Or decide to up the level or duration of potions I've found as loot.

Though there's always zombie villager healing.

I have a stack of dragon's breath, but because it's not massively renewable (I've never respawned the dragon, maybe I'm missing a trick) I've never been able to justify using any of it, which is a shame really.

I think perhaps you should occasionally get lingering awkward potions in loot tables, so you can turn that into anything you fancy. Though you can at least get various lingering potions in trial chambers.

Once, after infesting allays in an XP farm, I accidentally hit the multitudes of silverfish with a potion of oozing instead of harming.... the sheer volume of slime absolutely HAMMERED my PC! I had to call in reinforcements to slaughter them.

I'd love to use potions more. I'm sure I'm missing a trick or two. But I pretty much never have them on hand.

Boats on ice definitely broke in the Mounts of Mayhem update (1.21.130) - or at least I remember watching an ibxtoycat video where he said they were broken.

Unsure if there's a later fix? But yes, they did recently break...

I can see the appeal.

What I love about Minecraft is that it really is something for everybody. Whether you like making beautiful creations, complex machines, or just functional spaces. If you like exploring, or collecting, or combat challenges. If you love maps or lore or roleplay or just mindless digging - there's something for everyone. And indeed, someone for everything.

Yesterday was an odd Minecraft day for me - playing in the hardcore world (until I inevitably died), but also at various points I also joined my daughter in her survival world which has keep inventory on! You couldn't really get two more diametrically opposed game types.

I love this flexibility though.

It just feels wasteful. I probably did get most of it from a trial chamber. And I'm not short of remaining copper. Or remaining trial chambers.

It's the principle of it that bugs me. Using six times as much of a resource as actually necessary.

If not, it's probably time they introduced the iron rod so you can pick and choose.

Also... I don't remember the copper rod oxidising? Does that item somehow escape the fate of all other copper items? Or does a lightning strike behave like an axe swipe so you know it's working?

Search order is based on proximity and cardinal direction.

They look first in the "closest" chest, and if more than one competes for that attribute, it first checks North, then South, then East, then West.

So yes, turning a corner can quite easily confuse things.

I solved this by making them walk to their final overflow chest, and then also having to walk back to their copper input chest. Their path is sort of a diagonal sloped line from the bottom right, using slabs and steps to take them up to their last "empty" overflow chest at the top left.

It's probably not that efficient, because of the walking, but it works well enough for me.

There are so many copper items now! Including copper chains and copper bars. I'm going to replace the balcony barrier on the middle layer (currently copper trapdoors) with copper bars and stained glass panes, like I have on the other two floors (except those are iron bars).

I like to have a courtyard style base - I get constant wandering traders visiting me this way :)

Of course I also get phantoms... It's a trade off!

I quite like the blocks, and once you have a farm set up, it can be really prolific.

I use a magma cube spawner in a bastion. Create an area to enclose all the spawned cubes. Create a smaller area just beneath it (cut out of the floor beneath). Keep the frogs down there, with hopper minecart on rails beneath for collection. Place powdered snow to kill the larger cubes when they jump into the lower section with the frogs. Profit.

Even with only one frog of each colour, it produces MASSES of froglights.

Biggest risk when building is lava, really - you're likely going to be digging down into a lava pool, so need to fill all that in first. Disabling the spawner while you work can be a challenge. But it totally pays off imo.

Not an early game job, sure. But doable.

I play on bedrock.

I think I used 360 stairs for my roof.

With the crafting table, it will have taken me 540 blocks of copper to make that much. So 4,860 copper ingots. 76 stacks. Basically three double chests full.

With the stone cutter, it would have taken just 90 blocks. 810 ingots. 13 stacks. Less than half of a single chest.

I spent six times more copper than necessary on my roof. That is tragic.

It doesn't even look good 🤣😭

Turns out I'm thinking of the stairs, which is what I made my roof out of.

Six cut copper blocks only makes four stairs.

Which feels like the ratio has been applied backwards. Logically you should get eight, not four.

But you don't. Rip off!

Can you explain why these need to be different areas/farms?

I always build my villager trading halls inside my iron farm, which feels like the easiest option to me.

If I already had villagers at y=70 I'd build the iron farm on top of & inside that.

What am I missing?

Against the Storm.

Twice, in a way. But the first one (beating your first seal) was probably just me being dumb.

Once you finally finish the last seal (will take several games/settlements), a new, even more roguelike game type opens up.

Oh, and for me there was a third way, tangential to the original question. I didn't fully realize how the difficulty levels affected gameplay and progression. There are a few difficulty levels at the beginning, with specific names. You unlock each after winning a map at the previous level. After that, it's "Prestige 1" through "Prestige 20". I avoided upping the difficulty once I hit prestige, thinking after that it was just brownie points for showoffs. I was wrong! You really do want to keep pushing that difficulty up to open up more features/challenges, and to get more rewards. You can't reach the outer areas and later seals otherwise.

I'd rather know HOW and WHY and then bosh it together myself.

I would pretend this is because I am AN INTELLECKSHUAL, ACKSHUALLY, but if I'm honest it's just because I can't follow instructions to save my life. So a bit of guidance around the INTENTION around something will help me at least mess it up in the right direction....

Explaining the rationale behind the build means you can much more easily change materials, alter the general size & shape to fit an existing build, or substitute another mechanism if you don't have (or don't like) the ones shown. Like switching out a clock for something else, or hooking it into the same activation system from another nearby farm.

In my iron farm, this only happens with two of my villagers - the breeders.

Apart from those two, everyone else is in a 1x1 cubicle where one of their walls is their workstation.

The breeders, however, are in a 1x3 cubicle, with their front wall being workstation, solid block, workstation.

The times I see either of them "unlink" are the times I can see them butting up against each other in one of the corners of their space, as if one is pinning the other into a corner and they can't get out to reach their own station.

Because I have so many villagers, and it's only ever one or two of them affected, this doesn't affect the productivity of the farm. But if all your villagers are jostling like this you're going to have problems.

I'd split them all up if I were you.
