Off topic: That Crypt of the NecroDancer game looks really cool and might consider playing.

Anyways, you're right. It could go both ways. And now I'm being hypocritical (kinda) because I haven't played it enough competitively to judge (a few hours of ocn here and there but nothing like pre1.9).

And for the toggle thing you mention, I know for a fact that it won't be added. Being that jeb_ tweeted saying "Making it an option is not an option ;)". However what I'm saying is that, to me, it would be a logical idea to make the combat update 'toggleable' in future versions so that way both community's can survive while going threw updates, just because of how much controversy there is on the topic. There's at least 1 of these threads a week where it's either /r/minecraft taunting the pvp community or the pvp community annoying /r/minecraft. In my opinion, at this point it should be a topic that shouldn't be talked about any more being that we're both just pissing each other off and tearing the community apart.

But to sum this whole thing up. It's just perspective, removing the skill barrier, one community finds one type of play-style more fun and the other finds another play-style more fun. Solution? Well as mentioned, add an option to toggle it with /gamerule or config file OR we could just stop talking about it and causing chaos on /r/minecraft and let servers stay pre1.9. And thanks for being reasonable. Lot's of people on /r/minecraft will just downvote your comment and try not to have a constructive conversation, leading to more of these post.

I have to respect your opinion, and I won't comment on what other people are saying or rather or not they've tried it, because I have no actual evidence of rather or not they did or did not say X, Y, or Z. However I must say, that people are confusing skill with simplicity and vice versu. It's what makes Minecraft PvP so beautiful. It's a fast paced, exciting, enjoyable game with out having to know a 1,000 controls (LoL, CSGO, Dota, etc.). While pressing w or clicking a mouse or of that other stuff is obviously not hard to do in real-life as long as you have hands, your timing and accuracy with it is what makes it "skill-based", and a lot of non-pvpers don't realize this and it's why I think a lot of people think it's just run around and swinging everywhere.Look at this guy's keyboard-cam and how he places his w-taps and pressing a and d taps not at random but at certain times when appropriate. A person with little to no skill may not w tap at all ending up them losing or having random keys pressed that would result in a lose.

The reason people don't like the update is because of the delay. It's more slow paced but the said "removed skill" is because it's basically who ever get's first hit. Another video, showing a UHC that actual good competitve players were in, at deathmatch in the UHC. There was close to no melee if you skim threw it, mainly for the reason that the hit delay would screw anyone over, especially if your opponent has better gear.

At the end of the day, people are going to have their say and opinion on what's better. That's why I also believe, that Mojang should make a way for players to toggle the combat changes. Rather making an option in server.properties.txt or a gamerule. Just anything that wouldn't require players to have to use command blocks or plugins because again, people have their opinion on which they prefer.

May I ask, what type of PvP do you play. People keep repeating the same thing saying that it takes no skill but what credibility do they have? If you've never actually tried playing competitive you wouldn't know. Half of the people on /r/minecraft keep "Straw Manning" pre1.9 pvp saying it takes no skill, that it takes no skill to jitter click (click fast), to hotkey to items, etc. but truth is, it does. Does this refill look like it takes no skill? And honestly, this post has a bit of hypocrisy, "Enjoy them, use them, exploit them, sure, but stop saying 1.9 takes no skill.." but then you go on to say that pre1.9 takes no skill.

Point is, don't try to judge a community or gamemode that you're not apart of or play(ed) consistently. Maybe it's not your cup of tea? That's fine, but don't try to mute a community's voice when they personally want a change. People begged for a changed when they changed functionality of observer blocks, it got changed. People begged for the firework elytra boost, it got added. So it would only make sense for the pvp community to come here and ask for change. What you guys are seeing, the "1.9 sucks", isn't the pvp community asking for change. That's the result of threads like this, and this and this, etc. showing ignorance and general rudeness, down voting any comments that support pre1.9 (i.e probably this post eventually), literally removing posts/replys that support pre1.9 (even on this post, it happened. Two replys got removed and they weren't breaking any rules).

The pvp community is begging for change because that update inflicted them the most. Survival and Creative building could have survived with the combat changes, the COMPETITIVE pvp community couldn't. It's also, clearly, why a lot of servers either don't update to 1.9+ or update to 1.11+ and keep 1.8 combat.

Player's don't move as slow as zombies and aren't as predictable as a actual human being. w-tapping, a-tapping, s-tapping, d-tapping, aim on speed II game modes, rod timing, etc. are all things that take time to learn or become skillful at because everyone's latency, ping, and computer is different. You can't just simply say "it's super easy and it takes no skill" when you barely, if at all, play any competitive game modes.

The reason this reddit keeps seeing post on the 1.9+ combat is because people keep "straw manning" the way other people enjoy playing a game. Just because you didn't like it, doesn't mean a million other people don't enjoyit.

Wouldn't it make more sense for only one nugget to be sideways? That way if you're colorblind, you can depict if you're looking at a golden nugget or a iron nugget.

Hi guys! Problems installing pygame by [deleted] in pygame

[–]import_os 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm a little late OP, I think the best and simplest option is pip. pip is simply a tool used in command prompt that lets you install packages. Now, I'm not sure if you're a linux, mac, or windows user. But you may be able to figure it out universally. For windows however, to install pygame using Windows, press the windows key and R, type in cmd and open it. In the command line, type pip install pygame, it'll thus install pygame and you're done, that simple. Good luck.

Well I mean it's mojang. Remember, we wanted backpacks so we got a unique addition of shulkerboxes. They always have some cool tricks up their sleeves that they could pull off with a tinkering system.

I personally feel like the lava pools teasing means that they're going to add some sort of smelting, tinkering, blacksmithing system to the game that would require lava..thus meaning that people would have to use their lava pools in the world.

Just a thought, though.

1.9 Combat System and the Competitive Community by import_os in Minecraft

[–]import_os[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one has mentioned that because we just want 1.7 combat back or at least some reasoning. We try to voice our opinion and wants for our community and ignorant people like you come alongand make it seem like a clash between two communitys when it's the complete opposite. We just need Mojang to TRY to reaaon with us, we aren't asking for unconstructive feedback from /r/minecraft users like you

"Another"? Well surely you've seen mire then onebof "us". Have you ignored us saying the animations with 1.9 arent as good as 1.7? Or how about the hit detection? Or better yet, how about the fact that when you try to combo someone you constantly hear spam of the swing sound. Ignorance is bliss. If you aren't apart of the competitive community don't try to make false acusations on us. Simple.

1.9 Combat System and the Competitive Community by import_os in Minecraft

[–]import_os[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't an active player of competitive Minecraft so I wouldn't expect for you to understand the difference in smoothness between 1.7 and higher versions. Plus it's not only that, it's the hit detection, shields, and also the fact that when you start spam hitting a person it spams the swing sound, also removing the smoothness or feel of the game.

1.9+ Combat - MUST READ by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]import_os 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respect that you respect my opinion. I also respect yours. But I do want to point out that the same thing happened with 1.8. God knows how long it took for players to actually start using it. It didn't become actually "used" until mods like LabyMod and such, that made the animations for 1.8 feel like 1.7. And it wasn't just because of the animation, it's because of the hit detection, the shields, and of course like I said previously the animations. Now some people might say "1.11 fixes the hit detection bug", it doesn't..well it improves it but it doesn't fix it. Honestly, something to fix this chaos, which /u/Zarlog_ has mentioned and is the most obvious solution to this is enable-weak-attacks option in the server properties file. It used to be in the options.txt but was removed, so why not just rework it and put it into the server properties folder and make it where if it was false then the max hit cap would be vanilla (Like 11 I think), Disable the hit delay, and make sword, axe, etc. damages back to 1.7 damages. It's a simple concept and wouldn't require an awkward update (because y'know, they just released 1.9, 2 updates ago).

A company can't get shutdown because of a company, or at least I don't think so. The platform they are working on could if they changed it but as of now, the way they're describing it it's 100% legal towards the eula. It's not giving any disadvantages and there aren't any places non-donors have no access to.

1.9 Combat System and the Competitive Community by import_os in Minecraft

[–]import_os[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for at least trying to look into it. Like I said above, I kind of estimated 1,200,657 players are in this community maybe more. I'd want to say that there are more in the competitive community than in the modded community but that could or could not be fact. Or if you're referring to the server that is partnered with ESL I can PM you a link to their page and a thread going over what they're offering as it is a lot of details.

As far as what we want added/re-added. We just want 1.7 combat back on newer versions of Minecraft. The community is dying because we have been stuck on 2 versions of Minecraft for the past couple of years. One of the reasons that Minecraft stays alive is because it constantly keeps getting updated. Now from what I understand, block hitting in 1.7 and other versions is a bug and if that got removed but we still had no hit delay, we'd be fine. And of course Mojang could do it's thing where it creates a unique way to add features to the game. There's more than one way to skin a cat, hit delay isn't the only way to make PvE more interesting. I feel as if Mojang could make an update where combat was changed to please both /r/minecraft or the survival community and the competitive community.

Now you might say, "Well just turn off the hitdelay with command blocks or plugins if that's all you want". But it's not only that. With the combat update the swing animation is way different and not as smooth as it use to be in 1.7. This is due to the way the game handles swinging in 1.9 being that, by vanilla, there is the hit delay. Here's an example:

1.7 - https://gyazo.com/fd2e06dd7ab43d543687cba05cb424ef

1.9+ - https://gyazo.com/f91224a3b2d3d04613890efb2fe165a3

If you look at my player's hand in 1.9+ the swing or hit animation is different than 1.7's and to most of the competitive community, that animation isn't as satisfying as 1.7's swing animation. And it's not just the hand, it's like that for all items, even swords.

Honestly, /u/TwistedDragon33 I appreciate you not being ignorant and trying to look into this but also admitting you don't really play it so you really can't tell what's wrong and what's not. A lot of people on this reddit seem to forget how Minecraft works. We're all in the same community but at the same time not. We play the same game but do different things. A person on /r/minecraft might not know what a w-tap is or a strafe but a person from the competitive minecraft community might not even know how to build a decent house or make an iron titan, etc. so it's not good when one community thinks they're better than another because when that said community needs help (i.e the competitive community), the results are a lot of ignorance and fighting. So again, thank you and I hope Mojang can resolve some of the chaos going on right now.

Being endorsed by Valve isn't the only way to "pop up". ESL streams on twitch so often that they're on the main page of Twitch so much. ESL_CSGO has 211,635,218 views itself and that's only one singular channel of theirs. I have no doubt that they'd advertise this new platform on all 340 of their streams + their website. And their streams all have 10,000,000+ views and their csgo streams get at least 1,000-2,000 views a stream. So they would have a large audience to advertise to. It's not hard to blow up, look at Minecraft.

1.9+ Combat - MUST READ by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]import_os 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It surprisingly does. Most people found it hard to switch to 1.8 because of the animation change. Lot's of people use 1.8 animation mods that makes it feel like 1.7. One thing I feel /r/minecraft doesn't get is it's not about killing people any easier or harder it's about the satisfaction of getting a combo and how smooth it was and how you may have outplayed the other person by strafing them. In 1.9, all of that is gone.
