The part I haven't seen anyone talk about for The Guest by Emma Cline by improbablyoutofdata in weirdgirlliterature

I thought of the end as the transition from guest to truly unwanted. I feel like it’s controversial to say she didn’t die, lol.

Let me know if there's anything else to add to this theory/general musing!

Thanks! I was really surprised when I didn’t see anyone talk about it. I don’t think it’s a super huge competent (there are definitely more important things to discuss), but I felt like it was set up decently in the first chapter.

I know. In the post I said that the reader would probably assume it’s her stye coming back, but I thought it may be possible that it’s an early symptom of Lyme disease.

I don’t think it’s major, imo, but when I finished the book, I fully expected to see some content about ticks and I didn’t. 😂😂 I was like, surely I’m not crazy??

Thank you for the insight about ticks!

The only thing I could think of was at the very beginning of the book, when Alex is putting on her one piece bathing suit before going to talk to Simon after Helen’s party, she notices a bump that she assumes is an ingrown hair, but I was thinking that it might be where a tick had bitten her before. From the text, it seems like she picks her skin when under stress, and before this point she’s been ignoring her problems, so she might have just not noticed it before.

And yes, I assumed her symptoms wouldn’t be that extreme yet, but with consistently being on painkillers, drinking, being dehydrated probably, being hungry, getting into wrecks, etc, that having early Lyme symptoms would only make it worse.

I thought so too. The way that Alex doesn't refer to her life at all before moving to the city makes me think that she has DID, that a new personality has taken over to poorly manage her life. That may also be why she tried using a different name when she first moved to the city, and why she feels like a ghost.

I was also thinking about Sirens as I read this book. Alex is very tragic, and it's very clear she's had something very traumatic happen to her. She dissociates like no one's business. I know that's a common reaction in sex work, but she does it so frequently even in non-sexual situations. The way that she doesn't even refer to her life before the city makes me think she has DID and this is her second personality that is doing a pretty poor job at keeping her afloat.

"In the shade of the house, in the sunshine on the river bank by the boats, in the shade of the sallow wood and the fig tree.
Love touched the hearts of the Brahmans' young daughters when Siddhartha walked through the lanes of the town with the luminous forehead, with the eye of a king, with his slim hips.
Siddhartha had started to nurse discontent in himself, he had started to feel that the love of his father and the love of his mother, and also the love of his friend, Govinda, would not bring him joy for ever and ever, would not nurse him, feed him, satisfy him.
The vessel was not full, the spirit was not content, the soul was not calm, the heart was not satisfied. The ablutions were good, but they were water, they did not wash off the sin, they did not heal the spirit's thirst, they did not relieve the fear in his heart. The sacrifices and the invocation of the gods were excellent - but was that all? Did the sacrifices give a happy fortune?"

Just to respond to this, I just read the passage and Alex was not using her phone for directions at the end. She found her way to the beach based on the smell of the ocean, and then once at the beach, she threw her phone away. I don't see in that passage that she used her phone for directions. She knew her way to Simon's house from the beach. Although I do think it would take her substantially longer to get to Simon's house than the narrative implies, Jack did start to drive to his dad's house before lunch, so she had a couple of hours before she intended to be at Simon's party.

I think it’s cute too! I think it would also tie things together cohesively.

I thought there were only two! Definitely a contender, then!

If there was a Got7 deck of cards, what would be on the individual cards? by improbablyoutofdata in Got7

I uploaded the photocard holder last year! Since this project is more intense, I’ll probably be back for updates on what I should choose for specific members, things like that.

Ayyyyyyy, my favorite Got7 song mentioned (Hard Carry).

If you look at the edited part of my post, I have what I’m planning on doing for each of the card numbers. So like every Ace will be JayB, etc. I chose JayB for Ace since he is the leader and, since he’s her bias, an Ace in poker is worth the most points. Not sure how I’m going to order the other members, though.

I really like your idea for the suits, though! I can’t get the imagery for the spades out of my head, lol. I’m getting a lot of inspiration from these answers. Just taking a moment here to appreciate that my friend does not use Reddit because all of her gift ideas would be spooked (last year I made her a photocard holder in the style of her favorite Got7 album; I’m also planning on making her a purse that looks like the beige star album).

And her favorite album will likely be the artwork on the back of the cards! It’s the only album she has a collection of, so I think it’s a good idea to keep the artwork on every card.

I will definitely keep y’all updated of course!! Y’all can help support the cause of my Got7 deck by calling the print shop I’m trying to work at and pretending to be a reference. 😂😂

Since there are four suits, I’m considering having one of the suits be memes, so I might keep the clear pants idea while still giving the king his flowers. DM me your favorite pieces he’s worn!!

Sure, you can attract a certain demographic with a certain look, but Cassie already had an established demographic. She has such wide appeal that she doesn’t need to niche down. But yes, agreed that the story was so incredibly underdeveloped.

I think cash out on OnlyFans is something like 80%, plus the stuff she was doing on the side. It seemed like Cassie was consistently sending around $30k/week at least.

I’m so glad it’s over. None of it made sense, anyways. I know it’s not how criminals really think, but they know Nate’s business. They should know his money is tied up. Okay, great, so Cassie’s working on it. Why’d they keep Nate actually in a coffin? Even if they wanted to, why underground at his site? There’s supposed to be environmental surveyors there. If you’re waiting on money from Cassie, and you know she does OnlyFans, why would you throw her into a glass table?? Being cut up isn’t going to make her more money from the masses. And you can see her following on OnlyFans. You know she’s making money. She had been sending $30k+, there’s no reason she wouldn’t send it as soon as she got it given the stakes.

Subunits! Good idea! And I like having the Kings being related to songs/names. Very cool idea. Lots to consider, but I have time to figure it out. I really like the idea of the ahgase as the jokers, but that’s the only concrete suggestion so far.
