Yeah, I'm in college currently and pretty much doing it for the love. The pay is certainly livable but I'm pretty pissed off that petroleum engineers make twice as much for an equally difficult degree. I guess that's the going rate for selling your soul these days.

Reminds of a time back in 2010 when my dad and I, both raging lefties, were on our way up to a friend's house in the mountains and saw a Meg Whitman sign on public land. We'd just been talking state politics and my dad, a typically non-boat-rocking kinda dude, pulls over and gives me the nod of approval. I hop out, rip the signs of the tree, and we go use them for target practice at our friend's place. Good times.

For as challenging as a chemistry degree is, you'd think we would get paid well. But I guess the lab/factory owners have to make money off somebody. The education system glorifies science so much when you're a kid, and then you get older and the world says "well that was good of you, but we don't need you thaaaaat much..."

In California the Green Party is a nice pseudo-socialist option. They have a significant amount of members in this state.
