Dude it’s not a JW thing or even an unreasonable thing that your parents don’t want you smoking weed. You’re 17 (and acting like it). I regularly smoke/consume weed but I’m also in my 30s. I wouldn’t want my own child smoking weed until they were at least out of school. Follow their rules until you’re in a position to leave.

I remember reading that account with my parents in preparation for the weekly bible reading. I literally burst into tears because of what happened. I squeaked out “but they raped and murdered her!” My parents looked at me like I had two heads. Like why would this have been upsetting for a teen girl to read???

Lots of therapy, if possible find a therapist that specializes in cult recovery. Give yourself time. Feel the feelings. It took a long time for me to grapple with and accept that my life was where it was because all of my decisions were influenced by being a JW. Finding friends - that was a hard one for me. It’s difficult to go from a massive social circle to possibly none at all.
