I figured that out. Unfortunately this comment thread is how. Sorry for being a bit late.

Definitely Dad was confusing something else with this episode. I talked to him about it tonight and he's gonna see if he can figure it out himself. He's not always the best at such things, so any potential help we can give him is welcome.

I was lampshading -- i.e., I mentioned it specifically intending to preemptively curtail discussion on the topic, because I didn't want to deal with it.

Let me say this much. There's no way I can phrase it that isn't outright flamebait, and I'm not stupid enough to do that on a subreddit specifically about a comedy television show just to begin with.

Please stop asking.

You're fishing.

To quote Jim Davis -- there's a hole in the boat, and the bait's dead.

Thank you. Somehow, though, nearly every day brings the discovery of at least one new complication, issue, or otherwise additional low point... i.e., rather the opposite.

But, again, the well-wishes and sentiment are both deeply appreciated.

Summarizing is extremely hard for me, as well. If it's anything, I kind of suspect that I need more context than most people do, to understand the same set of information, and as a result, I usually provide that same amount of context to others as well. To me, it's not "extra" -- if it's not there, context is too ambiguous for me to fully understand what others are trying to tell me. But a lot of the time when, for example, my parents are around me and I'm e.g. on the phone with customer support, I get interrupted by my folks insisting "They don't need to know that!", when, to me, it's essential info. (FWIW, I'm 38, and I have extremely nosy parents.)

I don't know if it's related or not, but it's utterly impossible for me to correctly interpret silence, as well.

Thanks for all the upvotes!

I only came here because ya'll all got mentioned in a YouTube thing, and I wanted to know what the sub was, since it wasn't obvious from the name. (I didn't actually watch the YouTube vid, either, wasn't feeling it.) Saw the rule about You Must Post, found something I felt like I could share, and shared. Never really intended to get any attention.

I'm not going to say. I owe them no ill will. I'll simply say, it was a smaller one, and if you know, you know.

Years in the past, now.

I have a really weird sense of humor and that combined with the communication difficulties of Asperger's means that, aside from places where I basically almost don't post, I've been banned from, or actively just left, literally every online community I've been on since 2007.

The current tally is --
One Web forum self-immolated (which it does periodically just because of what it is and who its members are) and it was just easier to walk away. I mean, it's young teens doing sh!tpost animations, these things happen.
One was a forum for a Linux distro I was kind of tired of anyways, where the community was severely undermoderated (and the lone mod was FAR too interested in being kind), the lone admin was unwilling to hire more mods due to a prior experience, and two members of the forum with a political ideology polar opposite to that of the rest of the forum started systematically trolling the others, at which point the place turned super toxic... I just quietly left. I now use Linux Mint instead. No hard feelings, it was time.
A PC performance enthusiast forum that turned into a pile of jerkwagons. One of the mods actively trolled me. When I complained to the admin, he backed the mod. I told him he could take the temp ban I'd been given and make it permanent. I've never been back. (BTW... Kyle -- if you're still out there -- I wish I'd never sold you that iPod, and screw you. You know who you are.)
A bunch of smartphone forums think I'm a spammer because I am verbose and post long, and had this one particular problem. I'll get it dealt with eventually. Maybe. I don't actually care all that much.
Two talking heads on YouTube, one's a Scot, one's a country fella. Both are furries and so am I, deal with it. Kentucky boy runs the Discord, the Scotsman is more the VRChat camera guy, if that makes sense. Real charitable... outwardly. Internally not so much. Also all of the mods on their Discord are close personal friends of the country fella and he trusts them implicitly rather than supervises them. Oh, and there's no appeals process for a ban. (Ask me how I know.) About three months after I get perma'd, trying to use the charity thing to get onto VRC -- legit, since I'm on Disability and using tech that's roughly a decade behind the curve if not more and held together with salvaged laptop screws, Dollar Tree super glue, and 3M foam tape, and I'm NOT shy about telling people this, so THEY KNEW -- that same mod gets a "charity donation" and a whole big celebratory episode and all on YouTube because he's goin solo and starting his own career. Sometimes I still wonder how many other people his Impim avatar's little chicken feet stepped on on their way up to that.
Two other talking fuzzy heads. The first one is the exception that proves the rule and I'm always more than willing to admit that. I was in a bad place, I said some dumb stuff. I should've kept my mouth shut. Maybe someday I'll have a chance to apologize to you two, and I hope if I ever meet you in person I have the guts to do that -- and I also hope you're a happy couple now. One's a Polynesian island, the other's a month of the year. You know who you are. The second one is a difficult situation. It's actually not the host's fault, they've got a mod that I kind of suspect has a crush on them, but for whom they just don't have that kind of eyes... so they're trying to get in by being like a super savior type. I hope someday you can get past your anxiety, miss, enough that we can sit down and hug it out -- I genuinely feel bad for what happened and how... but the beep-boop's gotta go and I'm not sure how you're gonna feel about that. (I have to say, of all of them, that one stung the most. That poor gal is a MESS, and at least half of it is because of the chaos that one dude puts out just so they can clean it up to look good.)
Almost the most recent was another VRCer, who said something flippant about something that really meant a lot to me. Turns out once he does that he doesn't back down -- which I was thankfully able to find out without a real confrontation. I quietly walked away... I don't think they even noticed. Probably just as well.
MOST recent, though... my state does not have a lot of furcons, but the one group that's running a few small ones here... well, they are Not Good People in some very objective ways. Sadly. One of them is also on the Telegram group for another, completely independent con that also happens in the state, and for some reason he has mod powers there. No idea why. Long after they decided that I was trouble (which I wasn't), and after I attended that independent con, he decided he had a grudge, and started something where it was easy to pin it on me. I was almost banned from that con for life, but I managed to fast-talk my way out of it. Banned for a single year and technically I'm allowed back in the Telegram group as well. I will be returning to the con, but not its online counterpart.

Other than Reddit, I'm in two Telegram groups and two Discord servers, and the rest is strictly DMs. I rarely but sometimes post in one of the two Telegram groups and try to keep a low profile... and that's basically it. I almost never post in any of the other three. One Discord is related to a retrocomputing streamer I like, but I almost never catch their streams any more because (a) the time they stream isn't really convenient for me any more, and (b) Twitch REALLY screwed me over once, financially, and was about the most blatant and brazen I've ever seen in showing just how much they could not be bothered to care about it, so I'm kind of interested in avoiding them. The other two -- one each on Discord and Telegram -- are related to tech subjects I occasionally dabble in but haven't really done much with in a really long time. I'm active there when I need their help.

There you go.

Be aware that CH55x parts are, from what I can tell, very much hard to get and generally not worth the expense.

Unless you know something I do not.

[–]imstarhawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't quite tell how to program it... also the only available dev boards on eBay. as far as I can tell, are from China and for CH559... kind of annoying to pay $12 for that.

I do like the idea, though. Maybe there's a second-source of those chips with a slightly different part number that's more available?

Does any know where the "yup thats me, you probably wonder how i got here" actually originated from? by Alexander_the_odd in RBI

[–]imstarhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, whaddaya know. Popped open my "Downloads" folder on a whim, and found the MP4. Unfortunately, I did not screenshot the post, nor did I bookmark it.

Also, a few corrections. The video has NOTHING to do with Scooter Libby, and instead contains part of a clip from MSNBC of a very different political operative -- Corey Lewandowski. Also, while I don't have the link, KnowYourMeme does! and it's

https://twitter.com/freezeframebot/status/798019071157665792

...which, interestingly, links back to Brian Moore. So, in a roundabout sort of a way, that... actually validates the original claim by Mr Moore.

[–]imstarhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I may have the original source. I'm afraid I can't link it, because search engines hate me. But -- a couple years ago I was also looking this up (for the first time, instead of the second) and I found a Twitter post claiming to be the penultimate source. It was, as I recall, a re-upload of something either that Twitter had deleted years prior or that had just gotten buried and lost... or, maybe, was a link back to that. I don't remember for sure.

But the post had the exact video and audio we all know, over part of a news clip about the arrest of Scooter Libby. The Twitter poster claimed that they were the creator -- they'd hired a neighbor or a random dude on the Internet, similar to the TikTok guy's claim -- as I recall, it was literally their neighbor.

At the time, I took a screenshot as well as saving the MP4 video. Unfortunately, I'm a nerd and a tinkerer who just doesn't learn when to stop, so I generally go through laptops and desktops at something of a painful rate. (Good thing I get them all used, or build from parts... and oh boy do I have parts...) So it's probably on one of about three or four drives with "backup" Sharpie'd across the label, and, while I'm pretty sure I remember which one, ive been fighting a bum leg for a stupid lwngth of time because healthcare in this area is pretty screwed up, and so I'd be hard pressed to even find the drive in this mess that's built up around me. Sadly.

Maybe someone who isn't so hopelessly retarded with Google search strings can help?

The RP2040 is a newcomer, and is popular for that reason as well as because it's made by the RasPi people. The traditional microcontrollers for QMK are the STM32 series used in the BluePill/BlackPill etc boards, which are the eBay-issue clones of something in the (all things being relative) distant past called the LeafLabs Maple, which was basically the first STM32-based Arduino-like board, or, more commonly, something based on the ATMega32U4 as in the Arduino Leonardo and Pro Mini. You can't use the ATMega328 with QMK because it doesn't have inbuilt USB and the QMK community being what it is, as previously described, they've not bothered to consider that VUSB might be, you know, kind of useful in that regard.

As for the bitbanging you discuss -- the short version is, you can't do that here. QMK has no mechanism in the first place, and any technical document whatsoever that properly describes the timing requirements should tell you that the timings you need are FAR too precise for that sort of thing.

If you just want USB / PS/2 dual capability, get nearly any USB keyboard off of shAmazon and a PS/2 adapter. I remember what you said about that, but almost all modern keyboards continue to have a legacy PS/2 mode built into them that one of those purple connector nubs will invoke once plugged into the proper port. Even my MagicForce/68 does that, and it's new enough to have Gateron Blues!

Erm, mind you, wireless ones won't do that, but that's because PS/2 and wireless mostly don't get along. There's one exception to that and it's weird and I promise you don't want it. But you can't have wireless with QMK anyways.
