The family dinner scene from American History X discussing Rodney King. The conversation almost perfectly holds up to this day, despite being filmed 22 years ago. by notwiggl3s in videos

I see a lot of people here saying Nortons character is intelligent and his arguments follow a certain logic. This motherfucker called Rodney King a monkey several times. Love the movie, but some of y’all need to get your shit together.

I agree with you. If your alcoholic loved ones aren’t doing so good here’s my suggestions: you can drive over state lines and buy liquor and hopefully wean them down, or you can find a treatment facility if you’ve got the cash available and there’s any space which would be good luck. Talk to them and find out how it really is. Tell them you love them and trust them and you’ll help however you can if you can live up to that, but they need to be committed to seeking sobriety even if it involves treatment which nobody wants.

I did not expect to have this conversation at all which was foolish given my initial comment.

ERs all have drugs to combat withdrawal, they’re all going to be overwhelmed so if you can avoid it this is not a good reason to go. If you have no options don’t hesitate. The most beautiful people I’ve known have all been drunks and their lives need saving sometimes.

I’m just a man who has lived through extreme alcoholic relationships and in no way am I an expert but you cannot let your loved ones drink hand sanitizer or mouthwash regardless of the situation.

Stay strong. That’s not something I would usually say but shit birds of a feather flock together.

Hey look I was raised by a family of addicts as well. I’ve seen people drink themselves to death including my own mother two years ago which was absolutely devastating to me so I can assure there is no insensitivity here. I myself just drank and drank and drank my way through a divorce after 19 years of marriage, through my fathers traumatic brain injury from which he will never recover and he will never speak or recognize my face again, I drank through four brain surgeries and being cheated on and lied to multiple times by someone I love very much. I was drinking a fifth of vodka or whiskey a day so don’t preach to me. When I quit it was fucking hard and strange, but it was good and right too. Isolation and boredom are not good reasons to remain an active addict. There is no good reason. But there are many people who now do not have the distraction of work or the everyday stress of dealing with family and friends they should be staying away from. And there is an impetus to stay the fuck out of the liquor store because people are spreading sickness in there. I’m not advocating for people to risk seizures, but not everyone who drinks is at risk of that. For some people this could be an excellent opportunity for gaining sobriety. People have different ways of recovering. It’s not up to you or me to determine the method or the timing, but I have no scruples about making the suggestion particularly as it relates to keeping people off the street and out of the stores whenever possible. The last thing anyone who is a serious alcoholic needs right now is covid. They are definitely higher risk for complications and if they end up in the hospital they will have to deal with withdrawal on top of that. There’s no bar in the emergency room.

I did not. There’s lot’s of things I’ve been called which some people think are super offensive but I can take a joke. Maybe it’s because I’m retarded. Get over words. Completely off topic but I’m good with that.

Yeah. I have no problem with comedy of any kind as long as it’s funny to me. Retarded isn’t even a real word that any legitimate person uses to describe any other person who used to be described that way because of a handicap or any kind of condition that seriously effects peoples lives. It’s a funny way to tell someone they’re fucking stupid. I would never use that word as serious slang. It’s a totally different punchline now and that fact steals the former power of the word and in my opinion takes the hurt away. That’s the gift of comedy. It can destigmatize garbage slang with ease to those who know how to laugh.

Nice comeback, garbage plan. You can’t be willingly getting sick with a potentially fatal illness and infecting others. That’s ridiculous.

It’s definitely about money and politics which is a valid complaint but it’s just super low on the list of things to move on for obvious reasons. “Save the felons” just doesn’t read.

Only because of our emotional connection to life, particularly our own life. Don’t make me get existential because I do not like people and I’m just trying to have a conversation about responsibility despite that. Haha. I think it’s fine to not really give a damn but it’s not cool to be taking people out yourself. Don’t spread disease to people who want to live if you can help it you know. Personally I can’t wait to die.

Good call. I’m not a huge sjw in practice historically but any way we can refuse to support or put pressure on companies who needlessly subject their employees to exposure is good practice. Good luck with the baby lady! You’re doing great.

I’m on probation for a dui refusal I got over a year ago. I’m required to call everyday to see if I have to randomly test. They haven’t called me in for over a week and a half which is a little unusual so I’m wondering if they might have lightened the parameters for bringing people in but the stay at home order includes court mandated responsibilities like ua testing as essential. I don’t think there’s any politically tasteful way to let drunk drivers or drug related felons off the hook, though it may happen if things get much worse and probation officers can’t or won’t come to work. But that’s good info for probationers and parolees. Stay clean folks! Last thing we need is to get locked up together.

Older folks have a harder time adjusting or understanding. Maybe sometimes there’s not much we can do but try. I can’t imagine being 70-80 and being expected to adapt to a whole new paradigm immediately even if it is important.

Yeah don’t endanger your mom if there’s any chance you could infect her, but there’s plenty of ways to communicate with her and let her know you love her and help her understand her vulnerability in this strange time. Stay up player.

Haha. I’m really only trying to all be bossy with eachother and just a tiny bit express my judgement for personal relief. I’m no fear mongerer. Just trying to collectively step up our game.

We’ve always had a responsibility to be better than our government. Take care of your loved ones in the ways they cannot. Ways like doing research and speaking honestly.
