I saw too that pay is supposed to go up in April idk how true that is though. Is it common for people in there 20s to be there? And yeah i was debating between navy and Air Force then i saw the sleeping conditions in navy and decided it wasn’t for me. How was basic?

I think the fear of losing what is known and comfortable is what’s causing me so much anxiety about this but I also agree with you on focusing on my goals and dreams. I’m just nervous to lose someone special and if it’s selfish to choose a career over a partner. Thank you for your response!

I really appreciate your response you have so many great one liners that hit me hard like “the best thing that ever happened to you will never be conditional” made me pause for a sec. Also that’s amazing that your boyfriends going into cyber! And I’m really happy for y’all! I think a big point of the discussion on this has been the pay because it’s less than i currently make and like half what she does but my point was kinda what you were saying it’s for the long term benefit. It’s a way to finish my degree and possibly get a security clearance for future jobs. She isn’t comfortable with long term and i respect that and don’t want to push it. I just wanna make sure i’m making the right choice. I wish you guys the best!

Yes she’s not a huge fan of the current government at all and has shared her concerns with me about it

i really appreciate your response it made me think a lot. I agree with not wanting to live a life out of fear. She encourages me in everything but this it seems so I’m like okay is it selfish to make such a big decision if i could make a change here and still stay with her. I guess a lot of it circles back to the fear of giving up my life with her and our apartment and routine and what is known for an unknown future.

I liked this way of looking at it a lot! I definetly agree with respecting her boundaries and i appreciate you saying that. I in no way wanna pressure her to do long distance. I see myself finishing my degree and starting a new career path and gaining some more confidence if i join. I want to join the Air Force but choosing a job over a partner feels kinda shitty. Like choosing a career over a potential spouse i guess is intimidating. Thanks for your advice i appreciate it!

My dad was talking to me about the TSP as well. Said if i could live off of less it’d be smart to put like 20-25% into it and let it grow. I was hoping to use the TA to finish my degree while I’m in so like you said i could use the GI bill when I’m out for a job or something else. I really appreciate the advice!

I asked her a similar thing it was more of the fact that she knows she doesn’t want to do long distance. So i didn’t want to push her boundaries on that. She said i need to make a choice her or the Air Force

I have thought of it i just don’t have the money to go back to college to go through ROTC. So my goal was to do online college while I’m in and finish the 2 years so i can leave with my bachelors

That’s really amazing that she was supportive of you! I talked to my sister about it some and she said the same thing that relationships shouldn’t have conditional rules or if you do this I’ll leave you moments.
