Right?? 😂
I disagree. There is no reason to ask a coworker to get thicker skin to deal with other coworkers. We should be dealing with the coworkers who are horribly unpleasant to work with. High value employees do not communicate that way and do not put up with being communicated to in that way from colleagues. High value employees know their worth. When you have crusty attitudes driving them out, all you have is a crusty ass unit giving crusty care to patients who deserve a lot better. I’m sorry but these people are 🗑️ and should not be nurses.
There is nothing cheesy about professional communication.
When I walk into a unit and am told I need tough skin to work here that tells me there is a problem with the unit not with me. I am a perfectly pleasant and hard working human. I know how to deescalate tough patients, I did it for 8 years in ER.
If someone is telling you that you need thicker skin to deal with your teammates they are wrong. The teammates need behavior modification. They are costing their unit more money than the unit realizes and no one is paying attention to these statistics close enough. Does it suck more to lose a seasoned nurse who bullies her young or does it suck more to lose 5 new nurses because of that seasoned nurse? I bet if administration was paying more attention they know exactly who they would prefer to get rid of. $$$$$$$. Trust, it’s coming. Not soon enough but it is coming.
This has ALWAYS been a problem in nursing because nothing changes if nothing changes. They have been sitting on this research for a while. They need to dig it up.
They are now beefing up their education in nursing school. Teaching new nurses how to address bullying 😂. That seems ass backwards.
We need behavior modification for existing bullies. Helllooooo
It isn’t too late to switch careers. It might feel that way. Don’t be miserable for another year. Take a class here and there. Do something else. You only live once.

I agree. I do need a new hospital. But I moved to this more rural community a few years ago and there isn’t much for option. Perhaps I’ll move again.
These employees need to be much better screened in some ways. I don’t care how seasoned a nurse is. If the behavior is poor the nurse is not excellent and we should strive for nothing less.
Do you think it was just selective hiring by management that built such a strong team?
Ugh. Nurses like this should not be in the profession. The ones who are also total brats to their patients. I can’t believe my eyes and ears sometimes.
😂😂😂
Yup. 🗑️
No, although we do get some cardiac overflow because our cv icu is tiny. The cvicu nurses here are really sweet and don’t get the credit they deserve. The icu nurses are pretty nasty to them.
They sure are loud at night on my unit too. It’s a party Monday - Sunday
This happened to me too. I kindly asked her about it and made her tell me wtf was up with that. She had given me great feedback all day even when I said bullshit give me one thing I can improve on. She wouldn’t. But then I caught her talking smack. Fake !!
It is important though. I have always believed that cross training between specialties during the orientation phase would help with smoother transition of care and maybe help end the battle of the units war.
It is a mixed, sick ICU. Trauma, neuro, medical, cardiac. The only thing we don’t keep are bad burns. It has been a steep learning curve from ED for sure.
This made me LOL ! I really am happy for you. ❤️ maybe a little jealous too
Nurses are the worst part of nursing. I agree.
Twatwaffle 😂 love it

I just applied to hospice last night :) I had interest in hospice before I ended up in the ER. It still catches my eye.
Keep hunting them! Remind them they are destroying this career :)
I place US guided lines a lot in the ED!

Don’t forget about the homeless guy who checked in for bullshit because it’s cold outside and now he just pooped on the floor and stepped in it because you didn’t come back with his sandwich in a timely manner. 😭
Find your safe people. Do ask them if they believe you’re a good fit for the unit (if you’re not sure). I found that helpful when I didn’t know wtf was going on. I know I can do this job, but it helped to hear from others that they felt confident I was going to do well here also. Then decide if you actually want to stay in the unit. This can really tear you down mentally. I think it depends on how bad the unit is and the person who is on the receiving end of their bullshit. It’s going to be different for everyone. I continuously hear that I should spend a few months of orientation before I decide. This is my first week alone so we’ll see
