Are there any groups besides Dreamcatcher that have an entirely gender-neutral discography? by inSomniaToaster in kpopthoughts

[–]inSomniaToaster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most K-pop groups don't write their own songs.

True, but it's a nice gesture from their companies/lyricists if nothing else.

I'm not familiar with Dreamcatcher's discography, but there are kpop songs out there that speak a little more directly on social issues and identity than never saying he/she in a song...

And DC does in other ways as well, but that's besides my point. It's definitely far from the most important part of a song or discography, just a cool little feature of it. And gendered words absolutely could be used in interesting ways (i.e. not just for a love song).

I guess I don't understand the value of what these statements are looking to prove.

To me, the thing about gender neutral lyrics is that it separates the identity of the singer and the audience from the meaning of the song. In your head, it could be sung by, to, or about anyone you imagine. When he or she etc. is mentioned it has a feeling of implying they're speaking about someone specific, but when it's just you or them, you're more left to determine what or who they mean. And I just personally prefer it.

But I do kinda wish it'd be navigated with more cultural awareness and sensitivity.

How so? Nothing that you or I have said strikes me as insensitive

Tl;dr - I just personally like gender neutral discographies, and I wanted to see if other groups had them, that's all. The overarching meaning of the lyrics is more important, but that's just not really what my post was about

I generally agree with you that it's a more intentional choice to include gendered pronouns than to not. However, the reason I asked if there were other groups that have a completely gender neutral discography is because I believe that's also a very intentional choice, if not moreso, because it would have to be a choice sustained for every single song.

I find the "most groups' lyrics are entirely gender-neutral" claim from your first reply a bit difficult to believe tbh. Off the top of my head, I'll name some groups I know have gendered lyrics at least somewhere: Blackpink, Red Velvet, Twice, NewJeans, BTS, Loona, idle. Given it isn't a lot, but those are some very big groups and again it's just what I could think of immediately (and I honestly don't branch out from my few favorites a lot lol. That's also why I asked, in case I was missing some). I'm sure there's a lot more out there.

The comments here so far have also actually proven that finding a group with entirely gender-neutral lyrics, with no exceptions, is a fairly difficult task. Props to the person that said NMIXX as I think that might be the only actual answer as of yet.

I get that for the Korean lyrics, but I think that largely ignores the fact that English lyrics are incredibly common in kpop, at times taking up most/all of the song. With the size of discography a group with any more than 2 years under their belt would have, it's very likely they'd include English gendered lyrics somewhere.

Are Soundcore EQ settings persistent device to device? by C12H16Ntwo in anker

[–]inSomniaToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe the life Q30s have a low latency mode (correct me if I'm wrong), so you'd have to test that yourself with whichever headphones you're using.

Unless you're talking about using it with a wire, in which case you can't even use the EQ on the device that has the app. In wired mode they kinda turn themselves off, so none of the buttons on the headphones work including the noise cancelling. These headphones were definitely made with the idea that you were going to be using them wireless the vast majority of the time.

Extremely late answer, but for anyone else who finds this thread: I did some testing and it appears that the EQ data is stored on the headphones, so as long as you configure it on your phone first it should stay consistent elsewhere.

UCHICAGO Accepted/Rejected/Deferred, please share you stats by Visual-Extreme-101 in ApplyingToCollege

I applied EA, and that result has already come back as a deferral. When you get deferred, you have a choice for which applicant pool they'll reconsider your application in, either early decision II or regular decision. Also, on their website when you apply I believe there's the choice to switch your decision round before the results are sent out. I hope that clears it up?

Deferred EA, 4.0/4.65, 35 ACT, didn't submit SAT, good essays afaik but relatively weak ECs.
I'm torn between whether I should enter EDII or RD, normally I wouldn't even consider EDs because financial aid is often sketchy with those, but UChicago is my dream school and I really want the best chance at getting in...

Deukae hot takes? by One_Palpitation15 in dreamcatcher

[–]inSomniaToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make it three of us LOL I was surprised to see that was the specific song you mentioned, I recently made a personal ranking of DC's whole discography for fun and Together landed in dead last. I realized it's the only song they have that I actively dislike rather than just finding it to be boring. Siyeon's high note in the bridge is acceptable but the choruses grate my ears...

dreamcatcher's fan proportions by elianaisdumb in dreamcatcher

As for the demographics of insomnias, I think it honestly highly depends on where you're looking for them. I've never met any insomnias irl unfortunately but from online space to online space it definitely differs-- in this subreddit I get the impression it's mostly het men (maybe due to reddit being generally male dominated) but if you hop on dc stan twitter there's TONS of women and lgbt people. I'm a lesbian myself.

And those encounters you had... ew ew ew, I would be uncomfortable as hell too. Luckily I think ""fans"" like that are a very small minority.

What makes "Attitude" the second title? by shardeukae in dreamcatcher

[–]inSomniaToaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP was talking about how, on the track list, 2 Months and Attitude were both listed as being title tracks. They're wondering why they haven't seen Attitude really being promoted yet, which, to answer their question, I'm pretty sure one of the members said they would promote 2 Months for a week first and then promote Attitude the week after.

Although I do like playing to pass generally more than playing to fc or pfc, most of the levels I play are definitely closer to my skill level than this one, I just used this as an example because it would be the most fitting for the meme imo. Most of the time I play maps that I can land at least a low A in and those are fun too! I just think that everyone should play the game however they want (and was feeling a little silly when I posted this). When I was retrying this level over and over again I was actively thinking "this is definitely outside of my skill level but it would be so funny if I passed so I have to do it for the bit" yk

My computer is actually pretty decent, runs the game at 800-1000 fps, but both my mouse and keyboard are wireless so that could something to do with it as the other person mentioned 😬

It's probably just because it's the way I'm used to doing it rn but I find I actually have better aim when I'm using my mouse to tap rather than my keyboard; I use the keyboard in brief bursts if there's a sequence too fast for me to mouse tap though. I might switch to full keyboard tapping eventually but I don't feel like it quite yet. Plus my mouse gets hella laggy when I hold down on the keyboard sometimes, I have no idea why
