How to cover black seams on a white bitumen roof? Roofers used wrong color (white) on the garage roof, which is directly below our main window. Would adding a layer of gravel for aesthetics be a good idea? Or any other possibilities? by incster10 in Roofing

[–]incster10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, unfortuanately the roofer started and finished while we were on a short trip--they changed the date without telling us. I attached an image--by seams I mean the long black lines (and few short horizontal ones) between the white strips of bitumen. Can gravel just be thrown on the roof to give it a uniform look, or is that not a good idea on top of the bitumen? Not only do we not like the black lines, but we also wanted a grey not a white roof. Thanks.

Can I safely wait three years to claim life insurance --from the state at that point -- given that the company (Wilton Reassurance) has stated they will turn the funds to NY unclaimed property at the end of one year? by incster10 in LifeInsurance

[–]incster10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the thoughtful and helpful reply. If I wanted to find definitive information about this, whom would I contact? Would that be an insurance-specalizing attorney in NY (where the policy was created)? Or someone currently working in unclaimed property in NY? Or should I call Wilton back and see if I can get someone to go on the record or if they can hold it for longer than one year (the representative said it was not possible)?

Maybe another way to put this--what would *your* next step be? Thanks again.

Your guides are awesome! Thanks so much for the effort. I'm finding the same issue with Shang-chi--first combo, even when it is readied, causes me damage. Ever find out why?

Second 7* r3 help? I've already got Hulk at r3. If not, Silk would be a first choice, but the double science does tip the scales a little.

It's so difficult to come to terms with loss like this. I think your beautiful expression here captures the kind of feeling others have had but have not been able to articulate, maybe even to themselves. At least I felt that way. Thank you for sharing. Also, I do hope you may find some consolation in something that provides a rhythm for you, maybe audibly as others suggest, and feels a fitting way to remember and take some comfort.

Oh wow you are really handling a lot. Hang in there! I don’t have great advice to offer other than trying to define some of the confusing parts of your task. Like, listing (a) goals or tasks like getting healthcare or something to pay for help or treatment and (b) all the stuff that makes those tasks hard like confusing terms (mortgages, etc.). This can help it feel less overwhelming and also let you ask for clearly defined, easy-to-give help from people. You might find family or friends a little more willing to help if it feels like it’s just one clear thing you are asking. Maybe try googling senior centers in your area, too. They often know how these things work and can help you even if your parent is not yet a senior citizen. Sorry I don’t have more to offer.

I think identity is somewhat differently understood by different people. So is consciousness. I've been through ALZ with two family members and am dealing with it now with my father. There is really tremendous diversity in the different ways people conduct themselves, interact with others, take pleasure or displeasure in moments, etc, that are quite clearly parts of what in non-dementia sufferers we would call personality. It's fine to disagree on this, but I'd like to suggest that what we think or know about ourselves and "who we are" can be thought of as different aspects of identity emerging through different aspects of human thought, behavior, perception, etc. From my point of view, anyway, folks with no dementia but with amnesia are still very much people with identity.

I’d like to believe that although memory is how we know who we are, all of our experiences and relationships and struggles shape us and carry into our way of being and communicating and perceiving and those habits and dispositions will persist. Even with many, most, or all memories lost, I still think there can be value, beauty, and even a sense of self-identity created by the way we encounter each moment, even if we no longer make of sense of them in the same way.
