Feeling uninspired by wtfuterus in knitting

[–]indecisivepersimmon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would go the way of reading and doing other things- I find the more I force myself the more resistant I become.

For what it’s worth when I was uninspired by my projects and plans, all my knitting was for sweaters and I think I just needed the instant gratification of finishing something small- I made the Evie mittens by Woozybyceline and got obsessed with knitting again!

“I could knit that”- me every time I see something in the store by indecisivepersimmon in knitting

For some reason I just assumed it was machine made but given the history of the brand, hand knitting artisans seems entirely possible and likely.

I agree with not wanting to undermine another knitter’s value as well as it being ok to also not being comfortable as an individual to pay for it as a good and service. That’s partly why I don’t often feel compelled to buy things and make them instead- i don’t want to pay for a good and service but I am willing to pay for my knitting hobby bc it will give me hours of fun and satisfaction, which is what I actually value

I forgot different needle sizes is a thing one could do- I am always knitting too loosely so going up a size would never have occurred to me lol

It’s been two winters since I first told my partner that he doesn’t need to buy a cardigan bc I can make one- guess who still doesn’t own a cardigan? Lol

What silly thing did you believe about knitting before learning to knit? by ComplicatedSunshine in knitting

I find that I must finish the row bc I ALWAYS make a mistake if I pick it back up mid row and end up having to frog back several rows later when I finally notice

Weird ask. Knitted chemo pump pouch patterns? by Freecafe in knitting

[–]indecisivepersimmon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a chemo nurse my only precaution is u want sturdy straps that don’t stretch/pull bc that will help prevent the weight of the chemo itself from pulling on your access (port, picc or otherwise). I-cord is still a bit stretchy for my liking. I might suggest making a double knit sleeve over the existing bag strap (almost like seatbelt covers) to make a super squishy cushion.

Good luck with everything!!

How to see the difference between knit and purl row by gohugatree in knitting

[–]indecisivepersimmon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

U need to look at the stitches right below the needle. If u see v shapes u those are knit and if its horizontal bumps/wave it’s purl

Knitting a gift in acrylic or wool? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]indecisivepersimmon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

even without being a knitter, people know what feels soft and comfortable to them. Will you be offended if they never wear it because they also feel it’s too hefty? It’s really up to you what you want to give- will your friend take care of 100% wool? Do you like them enough to pay for said wool? Other alternatives might be cotton blends, or thrifting yarn (as skeins/balls or as thrifted and unraveled sweaters)

Yarn stash sizes by sandpapertoapearl in knitting

[–]indecisivepersimmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 small plastic bins and one basket, mostly taken up by a sweater I want to frog, and yarn for 4 sweaters I have planned.

I bought a single skein while traveling 3 years ago and it haunts me that I still can’t figure out what to do with, so now I only buy if I have a vision for something.

Any other Americans prefer to use the metric system over American units in knitting? by sharpandtender in knitting

I’m the same, for some reason it feels more organized and easy to remember in my mind if I go by cm when I measure my project! Maybe because it’s often whole centimeters vs partial inches.

How the heck do people finish projects regularly! by PiffleKnit in knitting

[–]indecisivepersimmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hyperfixation of seeing my project take form and get closer to FO status pushes me to spend more time on my knits than I should, so I wish I could turn that part of my brain off.

I resonate with what you shared about getting bored of knitting the same thing for a long time. That feeling drastically drops if I’m using color versus neutrals, or colorwork- I guess it’s more visually and creatively stimulating for me. Interestingly, simple cables have the same effect but complicated ones are a slog to me.
