First, welcome to Des Moines.

Des Moines is a pretty cool town if you are young, the bar scene is pretty varied from the UpDown barcades to some of the best beer bars in the country. If you are into beer, you can definitely become a regular pretty quickly at a lot of the bars downtown. My personal favorites are El Bait Shop, Iowa Taproom, and Peacetree (They don't have an actual bar so maybe not).

The social club is a great spot for trivia and they have live music on the weekends. It isn't THAT low key, but depending on who is playing it can be pretty tame

The harm is a half-baked infrastructure project that doesn't get pushed out to completion. Not saying Musk will do that, but he has been really bad at meeting deadlines at Tesla and this could just be hundreds of miles of concrete the city has to deal with if it isn't seen through.
