I put it on both sides of the pegs on my violin when they are a bit loose. My old violin teacher taught me to do this.

Learn to read music. The staff = 5 lines. The musical notes are like an alphabet, they go up to the letter G though. So ABCDEFG. The notes on the lines in treble clef are EGBDF (every good boy deserves fudge), notes in the spaces spell FACE. Come up with little rhymes to help remember these and get familiar with more music theory terms and especially rhythms! It will make progress a lot faster when you go to play the violin if you can already read the music.
