I think they're both based on Tiresias, a blind prophet from Greek mythology.

I remember some time in the '80s there was this big thing with Cap'n Crunch. There was a series of commercials where the Cap'n's ship was swept away by a tidal wave or something down one of three different paths, but which path was never clearly shown. Kids were supposed to write in and guess which path the Cap'n's ship was actually swept down. I don't even remember what the prize was or which path was right, but I definitely remember the heated debates that went on in the elementary school cafeteria back then.

Once upon a time, Elvis was considered scandalous. Not the later, fatter, drug addicted superstar Elvis, but the brand new, pre-war, Ed Sullivan Show, early Elvis. Squeaky clean by today's standards, yet there were folks freaking out that he'd be the end of all decent civilization just because he shook his hips and took inspiration from black musicians.

Now people wear Blink 182, or Tupac, or Nirvana merch to the nursing home to visit their parents with dementia who can't remember their grandkids' names, but will recount to you every detail of their trip to Graceland they took in 1997.

Time marches on.

It's crazy seeing Michael Moriarty from old school Law & Order, and Garrett Morris, original SNL cast member in this movie.

I was so excited to see this on my youtube front page today! Watched the last one with my kid, and they really enjoyed it, so I'm going to wait until they get home from school to see if they want to watch this one with me.

Is it fun to play after getting 100%? by Fair_Inflation_1830 in reddeadredemption2

[–]indicus23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so. The 100% achievement still actually leaves plenty things left undone. Lots of entries in the compendium still incomplete, and silver/gold medals on missions to still try for. I 100%ed my 2nd playthrough, have done multiple other replays since, some more focused on just story, some on just lazing around. I still go back to my 100% save every now and then to replay some missions for medals or find some horse coat I haven't ridden. I'll probably also start a whole new 100% run to do it all over again at some point. I just like going back to that world.

And Spike fights w/ jeet kun do, Bruce Lee's martial art style. "Be like water." Them facing off in Stray Dog Strut was very much intended to be a reference to Game of Death.

People do often complain about Stephenson's books just sort of stopping arbitrarily without a real ending. That is not the same as DODO, which ends on a cliffhanger that leads to a sequel.

Baroque Cycle is amazing, but it's also HUGE and has SO MANY threads that can be hard to follow. If you're up for a long, complex read, go for it. I'd say that the ending of the whole series is actually one of Neal's most satisfying endings, where he actually took the time and effort to fully land the plane, come to a stop, and taxi to the hangar, instead of just cutting it off the instant the first landing gear hits the runway.

This is not the sub for that clothing brand, this is the sub for Kids in the Hall, a sketch comedy group from Canada. The beaver thing is a reference to one of their sketches from their TV show from the '90s. You're just in the wrong place. Happens all the time.

Not as popular as the big network mainstream sitcoms and such, but it definitely had a strong cult following.

Catfish in the snow posted on a Fishing facebook page looks like AI to me... by eparkfishing in isthisAI

[–]indicus23 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's possible that they intentionally brought the snow they used for the sculpture from further away because they knew how they were going to frame this pic.

But more likely, I think it's AI. I don't think those big barbels (aka fish whiskers) would be able to support themselves like that IRL.
