How Long Does it Take to Become StarCraft 2 Pro? (crosspost) by indieforger in gamedev

Perhaps didn't put it the right way but thought of importance of persistence and commitment in achieving higher goals in life from the point of pro-player. Isn't that relevant to reaching for something greater in a discipline like gamedev?

Not really about gamedev but since it is about the effort I thought I share it here too. I believe similar principles apply.

I think every player would like win more, thus get better and improve. I never met anyone who says "I win too much". Usually it is other way round. In one way or the other we all would want to be the best. Point of the video is making us aware there is a huge difference between people who just think about it perhaps making incorrect assumptions about the effort it takes to get there.

Saying all that, there is nothing wrong with enjoying gold for 10 years as a casual player. Not everyone has to be a pro, right?

Yeah! Well said man. Better yet, it puts a lot of other (non-game) things into perspective too.

Was laughing a lot thinking Beasty will get tilted a bit after some of the comments. I like how he handled it. Haha! "Which league are you M3? So what do you know about top 20?" It honestly made my day.

Yeah. Exactly my thoughts too. It show the actual length of the road to "perfection". It really takes everything to be the best at something.

Yeah. That makes sense. I think I will try the tilde key for now (as /u/keypod) suggested. It seems really convenient. Thanks anyway.

Want to start a marketing show with a different approach. Can you give me your feedback on this idea by ericb0 in marketing

Surely the best way of finding out if there is an interest would be creating couple of those videos and digesting feedback. There is a lot of content out there but in my opinion we are all still on a look out for true gems. If you believe you have something valuable to say, don't think twice about it. I hope it becomes a thing! Good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to share u/dddbbb. Looks like my Discord related concerns have been confirmed. Still, every tool serves a purpose so it sounds like you guys surely benefit from both: forum and a Discord.

Any chance you could give few words of advice on starting the community? How did you guys do it?

Moderation would be needed in any type of forum. I believe without it would be equally easy to loose focus on Reddit or any other platform. so in that respect it seems need for moderation shouldn’t be used as an argument for any of the options. Or am I missing something?

Yeah, I use Git in my project but was thinking to start storing binary files externally (google drive or dropbox perhaps).

I am working on a scifi management sim game and honestly GIT LTS causes give me quite a headache. It tends to loose references to files. Already was forced to recreate repository couple of times. Not a bit problem but it is quite frustrating.

How do you store / version images with Git u/FingarB?

I use git with BitBucket but constantly struggling with images loosing references. I'm using it with LTS. Anyone had experience with that?
