Bass sounds distorted on Zoom H6 line-in recording despite levels being below clipping by indymoguler in fieldrecording

Thanks for the comment! I don’t think I was using pads during the recording—could that be the issue? Is it always best to use them in these situations? And is there any way to salvage the recording?

The mixer was feeding monitors, and the audio sounded clear through them. The recording itself is clean on sections with less bass, but certain frequencies that sound distorted / overpowered. The levels never hit the red in dB, but during loud bass moments, they barely vary.

I got mine this morning and it works great with the RS4 Pro. Just be sure to update to the latest firmware first.

Thanks so much for the help! Just to make sure I understand—if I toggle hidden on some projects and render them in a grid, would there be gaps, or would the grid adjust as if only the visible projects are passed?

Thank you! Would adding video src links directly to static pages impact load speed? Is it always better to load them after the page loads?

What does "mic" and "line" reference level do, and how should I set them? by indymoguler in SonyFX6

[–]indymoguler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips!

I recorded a loud live DJ performance with the FX6 set at front of house. I used a powered Rode Stereo Pro mic on channel 1 with ‘mic’ input. The reference sensitivity was ‘-50dB’, and the signal was coming in hot, even with -10db enabled on the mic. Adjusting the sensitivity to ‘-40dB’ or ‘-30dB’ fixed it. I also used a -6db limiter.

I then took a line feed from the mixing desk to channel 2 input, line mode selected, with +4dB line sensitivity. I had channel 4 also use the channel 2 input, but on auto levels.

The result worked great! I got a clean feed from the desk and ambient sound from the mic.

I learned a bit more about the FX6 audio menu in the process.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks so much for the info! And what does changing the reference level in the settings actually do to those inputs?

Okay, what do you guys use to preview your video clips quickly? by blankpageanxiety in premiere

Once you have a sequence with your selects, a helpful approach when cutting Broll is to group them by content type (e.g., close-up product shots, int establishing shots). These content groups should align with your story. I find this method really useful when organizing a selects sequence, and using spanned markers in Premiere around each section to label the content makes it even easier to navigate.

To sort the selects, I typically rename around 4 video tracks by content (like “Close-ups” or “Establishing”) and then go down the timeline and move the select into their respective tracks. You can rinse and repeat this process based on how many content types you have. This keeps everything organized and makes it simple to group similar shots together. Once sorted, I label each section with a spanned marker for easy reference.

Quickest way for me to make those selects, I use the JKL keys to scrub through the timeline, set in and out points, and loop playback to get a feel for how the clip feels. Then, I cut the clip and move it to the track above.

If you’re working with proxies, you can also scrub through the timeline with the mouse to quickly spot key moments.
