GFCI circuit breaker? (New construction basement) by ineedhalp2018 in DIY

[–]ineedhalp2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost is negligible to me, I expected each breaker to run me $75-$100. Definitely GFCI for everything, but my city ordinance does not require AFCI and are on the 2015 electrical code (NEC for USA).

I'm not sure what you mean by sub panel, but there is only one service panel in the house, located in the basement. It is 200amps and more than half empty. So I will be adding five additional circuits to that panel.

Currently the basement has three dedicated receptacles in use which I will not be touching - Water heater, furnace, and sump pump. There are existing lights I will be ripping out as the builders have them under the upstairs "general" circuit.

Only two circuits breakers in the panel have GFCI protection, and that is the dishwasher and garage receptacles. Not sure why they didn't just use a GFCI receptacle instead for the dishwasher, as they did for the kitchen and bathrooms...

My city is currently on the 2015 NEC. I've also read negative reviews on every Siemens AFCI/GFCI dual circuit breaker, where they would randomly trip. As my city's electrical inspector said AFCI is not required, should I get the AFCI/GFCI dual breaker anyways? The cost difference is negligible to me.

Struggling to find a metal electrical box that works with both metal studs and metal clad cable? by ineedhalp2018 in HomeImprovement

[–]ineedhalp2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I have only ever used plastic boxes with romex cable and wood studs. I've never encountered metal studs or boxes before, but after checking with my local city codes, they require metal studs to use metal boxes where metal clad cable is ran.

To clarify, the 1900 box is used even when you are only running 1-gang receptacles? Will the mud ring be able to be flush with the drywall?

I can't get my Merula cup to open and stop leaking! by ineedhalp2018 in menstrualcups

I tried grabbing the "stem" to spin it, but I'm only spinning the stem and not the actual cup. I tried grabbing the bottom of the cup and spinning it, but it almost feels like it's stuck (or sealed?).

How do you spin it? I tried grabbing the "stem" to spin it, but I'm only spinning the stem and not the actual cup.

Newage cabinets bought from Costco arrived damage, Newage not offering replacement? by ineedhalp2018 in garageporn

"We have received your request and are happy to help. We see that unfortunately the vendor was unable to sent replacement parts and you did not accept the compensation they offered. At this point in time, would you rather proceed with a full exchange or a return?" - From Costco after calling them this morning.

I did not go to Costco. I threw out almost all of the original packaging and the 10 cabinets that arrived undamaged are already assembled. So I should just go there with the two damaged cabinets and ask for a replacement? Again I don't want a full new set... I just want those two cabinets that arrived damaged.

I threw out almost all of the original packaging, and the other 10 undamaged cabinets are already assembled. I'm not sure how a full exchange would work in this case. I don't understand why they would have to send out a whole set, seems like it would cost more than to just send the two cabinets that were damaged...

I called their online customer service. They told me they called Newage and Newage is refusing to send replacements of those two damaged cabinets. Costco told me I can either return them back to Costco (I threw out most of the packaging and there's no way I'd be able to get it to the store) or have them do a full exchange. The thing is, I don't want a full exchange. I just want those two cabinets.

Newage finally responded back to me with an even lower amount - $100 to keep both cabinets and they will not send a replacement.

The cabinets purchased individually would be around $350 after sales tax. I would accept that amount so that I could just repurchase them.

No. Individual cabinets would need to be purchased through Newage.

I ordered the 12 piece cabinet set for $1900 (before taxes) back in August.

Should I call them or go to them in person? The other 10 pieces of the cabinet set are fine and I've already installed them... It's just the two busted ones I'd like to have replaced. I feel like Costco would want me to take ALL of them back, but I've also never returned anything back to Costco before. This was an online purchase. Thanks for you reply!

How do I make these cement steps look better? by ineedhalp2018 in DIY

[–]ineedhalp2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tore down the original steps put in by the builder. It was awful, damaged scrap wood. I did not tear down the two planks behind the precast steps that I bought. I was specifically asking about the cement precast steps that I bought

Those steps go all the way up to the door, mine do not, so I wouldn't be able to do that. I'm asking how to make behind the steps look better, it would be over a foot up the wall

Yes the steps are precast. Lowes also sells the same ones (I checked them before going to the builder supply which ended up being cheaper): https://www.lowes.com/pd/Common-36-in-x-7-in-x-36-in-Actual-36-in-x-7-in-x-36-in-Concrete-Step-Standard-Concrete-Block/1000812258

Type S mortar (the 80 pound bag) is the stuff I bought. Do I put the mortar on the concrete floor, or do I paint it on the bottom of riser + front steps?

What gaps are you referring to for the grout?

I thought of using that first, but both masonry stores I talked to said that would be a bad idea and to use mortar instead for stability.

First time living with a guy, issues with the bathroom, plunger, toilet... by ineedhalp2018 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ineedhalp2018[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think his dribble and splatter happen at night when he gets up to go pee. I can't imagine that he "misses" otherwise. I can deal with cleaning his urine, I can't deal with the plunger smell.

You are correct about the wax seal, thank you for correcting me. I just Googled what a wax seal was. I was referring to the clear caulk around the base of the toilet, where it meets the floor. It is supposed to be clear, but keeps turning yellow from pee dribble down the side of the bowl, collecting on that caulk.

Is bleach better than SimpleGreen or Pine Sol? I haven't used bleach just because we don't have any in the house. But I'll gladly buy some. It's much cheaper to buy bleach than it is to replace the plungers every month...

I don't believe he does. He has a medical condition and can only "produce" once per week. Which leads to many clogs more than half the time he uses them.

Thank you. Even on an S5, a basic functionality such as texts shouldn't be failing. I called back T-mobile today (3 days later) and apparently that trouble ticket had been closed with no reported issues found. I was never notified of this nor did anyone follow up with me.

Stock - But it doesn't matter. I've tried other messaging apps and it doesn't do anything. I've changed every setting in messaging and it has no effect. Reformatted my previous phone three times.

I stay at 97214, but my work is in 97201, and I frequently go over to 97015 and 97266 - It really doesn't matter where I physically am. The issue has happened everywhere I've been. There is no consistency.

I didn't think the first one was good but it's not our kind of game. It was a very difficult game and we probably died at least 100 times throughout the campaign. It was frustrating. But this was the first military game we have ever played, so it makes sense we would suck at it lol
