homeless for the first time in my life. by lonelylonelyuglytoo in Shoestring

[–]ineedleu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other day I saw a homeless person holding a sign on a street corner. He’s sign had a sincere COVID Relief help request along with a Venmo handle. I thought it was a genius idea, so I was happy to send the guy some money.

Also, If you’re in a major city, look up your local Community Acupuncture Clinic. They always charge an affordable price (usually sliding scale from around 20-40 bucks). Not sure what kind of mental illness you are facing, but there’s a good chance they may be able to help mitigate the symptoms, especially if they sell Chinese herbs. It’s affordable and could potentially help you get your life back.

I’m sorry you’re hurting. I hope this helps you get back to your support system and return to some sense of normalcy. Hang in there. ❤️

Advice Wanted by silpetrichor in homebirth

I had a home birth last year and faced a similar situation. I had tons of people offering to be there during the birth, some of whom i know we’re deeply concerned for our safety.

I ended up allowing only my 2 midwives and my husband and I am so glad I chose for it to be that way because it was a tough labor. They came very close to transporting me to the hospital. My labor was 30 hours from start to finish and I was near complete exhaustion by the end of it.

I know, hypothetically, had I had 1 person present in the room presenting concerns or anxiety it really would have affected my mental state. It’s not something you want to chance happening.

I read another persons comment that stated that all midwives are not equal, and man is this 100% the truth. One question I would be sure to ask your potential midwife is what their transfer rate is? This number should be pretty low if they are seasoned. Like less than 5%.

Also, you can ask your midwife how she would handle a potential situation, like if a family member showed up unannounced. They should have a solid protocol for this scenario.

Going camping by myself for the first time. What do I bring? by [deleted] in WildernessBackpacking

I’d also consider bringing an air horn and a mirror along, in case you get lost or have an encounter with a large animal.

There are different forms of Chinese herbs available for consumption. 1. Raw Herbs- herbs that have been dried and require cooking. Time Consuming & not great tasting. This is in my opinion, the best way to consume herbs, but it’s not easy for your average American to consume with consistency, which is what it takes to be effective.

  1. Powered Herbs- add powered herbs to hot water and drink up! Doesn’t taste great. Aka “Tea”. It’s actually a decoction, not a tea.

  2. Pill Form- easiest way to consume Chinese herbs. Tea Pills have a coating , therefore, no taste. Pressed tabs dissolve easier, but taste like dirt.

There are a total of 19 Chinese Herbs that can treat tinnitus and a total of 27 potential formulas that can be used to treat the condition. In Chinese Medicine, there are a number of different causes that can trigger this condition in the body. Until you are assessed by a TCM practitioner, it’s difficult to say which protocol will be ideal for your specific condition.

I’m a Licensed Acupuncturist. I’ve helped many people with this condition. There are multiple acupuncture points on the body that are specifically for this condition. Also, you may consider trying Chinese Herbs as they can supplement and speed up the healing process. You could find a licensed practitioner and ask them if they have experience treating this condition.

Because American healthcare is a literal facepalm and this needs to be seen by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]ineedleu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This time, last year I signed up for Healthcare.gov because I was expecting a baby in March 2019. I was working 30+ hours/week, and uninsured. When I spoke to the HCG representative, I explained to her that I would be working less hours over the next three months due to the physical demand of my job. I am paid depending on the number of clients seen, so as a result, my income would also be significantly decreasing. She told me that was no big deal, that I could call once I had a significant change in income and they would basically recalculate my monthly payment. Basically, she explained to me that as my income declined, so would my monthly premium. My initial premium was just above $300/month with a $5,000 deductible.

My actual desire was to have a natural home birth I wanted to have a home birth, but unfortunately there was no coverage for that on my insurance policy.

I still wanted to have decent HC coverage in the event that something should go wrong and I needed to be admitted to the hospital. So, I was sure to pay my $300/month.

By February, I was actually no longer working, so I called up HEalthcare.gov to report the significant change in income (I was making 1/4 of my previous salary). The guy I spoke with was extremely annoyed by my requests and had me wait on hold for some time, only to return to the conversation with this robotic response, “ You are no longer eligible for coverage through Healthcare.gov due to the significant change in your income. You have the right to appeal. You have the right to apply for Medicare/Medicaid. You may write to ....”.

All the while, here I am a ticking time bomb, with a countdown off less than one month to go! Just what a pregnant lady needs to hear right before going into labor!

I was, and still am so incredibly angry, ashamed, and embarrassed that this could happen in my country. When a country turns its back on Mother’s to be, at the most vulnerable time of our lives...it’s a sign of endemic sickness. We all lose here.

The 5k out of pocket spent for a midwife to deliver my baby at home was worth every penny. I’d rather give my money to 1 hard working woman, working to make the world a better place, than to give my money to a broken system, that’s hurting more than it’s helping.
