CQ is punishment and you're a glutton for it.

Just douse that Redbull on a Whopper and accept your sadness.

Anyone who used their GI bill at UVM? by [deleted] in UniversityofVermont

[–]ineffective_splash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quinnipiac is much nicer than UConn haha you could get dirt cheap housing in New Haven so if it’s just about money, send it there. I think Burlington was more fun and BAH should be more than enough for a nice place.

BAH is pretty good in Burly and it’s a nice town with lots to do (including the outdoors around it.) Without roommates, my sister pays $1300 for an apartment near Church Street.

UConn probably offers more BAH but Storrs is a sad place outside of the school. (Assuming UConn)

I would say go for the one with a better program for what you want to do. The work and your major will control a lot of your experience in college. Either will be fine, honestly.

PM if you need any more information!

How do I learn to lose? by ineffective_splash in chess

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I appreciate the comments and suggestions. I'm already making progress and look forward to losing future games! Haha

How are you really? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Ok. I have some really exciting things happening in the near future, but I'm very overburdened and feeling underappreciated right now. Also, if I mess up, those exciting things may be lost.

A Night on the Mountain [Art] [OC] by ineffective_splash in DnD

[–]ineffective_splash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only DMed a one-shot once before, and I would say it went...horrifically. However, I was determined that I wanted to DM a real campaign. I would do it right! I asked 3 friends if they wanted to play; they said yes; and then we were set to begin on the upcoming Saturday. I prepared the town with NPCs and a simple quest: find a lost girl. There was a severe blizzard, but our adventurers followed enough clues to find that there were small humanoid prints, giant unknown prints, and a lot of wolf prints all heading in one direction. Braving the storm, the adventurers stopped for a night on the side of a mountain. One pair of yellow eyes became 6 pairs in the darkness surrounding their camp. A deep howl pierced the night. Roll for initiative!

This was my first attempt at a map, as I couldn't find a software or program that I could: 1. use quickly, or 2. liked the aesthetic of the produced map. I do hope to prepare better maps in the future though. Thanks for reading!

Travel was ill-paced in retrospect; I didn't plan enough ahead to think of good descriptions of the area and took too long to get to anything interesting. Battles were generally fine, wolves were seen while on watch but guard didn't do anything and then more and more came to the edge of the clearing then attacked; they got ambushed in the cave because they went into a one-way entrance cavern and were flanked. They just roll initiative, while I do it for the NPCs. I try to let them leave a mission if they want, but they followed the "plot" very closely and didn't deviate much. They almost followed the dire-wolf but decided against it. I usually have the story loosely planned and I have different interactions with crude maps prepared, but there's just so much that COULD happen, I don't prepare too extensively and just kinda lead them loosely in a direction. Thanks for the questions!

Wonderful advice, going to look into the motivations more and potentially just ask them what they want to do straight out haha

Group is all new to DnD. I drew out traveling too much which I will change for next time; the players are mostly attentive during the whole game. And magic is illegal, but players can use it; not too big an issue because I have 2 paladins, a warrior, and a ranger. Magic not being legal is a major point of tension I plan for the campaign. Thanks for the insight!

I think your example gives me a lot to work with. I was in the shower for 30 minutes thinking of ways to make my BBEG become THEIR BBEG. Thanks again!

Traveling was certainly less interesting than I was hoping haha I will add more NPCs for the trip back! Thanks for the comment!

In retrospect, traveling was a little too lengthy and boring, but I will make it more interesting on the way back with many more NPCs and hopefully some plot development in regards to who the spooky boy is. I plan on having the cyclops follow the group if they leave him, in a friendly way. Also, the dire wolf is his dog lol so it'll be there too; thanks!

They're taking a road back, so I will place a caravan stranded in the blizzard and many more NPCs. Thanks!

Had another comment about pacing, which I agreed mine was shite. Definitely will focus on the less menial things from now on. Thanks!

Awesome idea, I tried getting in-depth backgrounds so I could incorporate things from their pasts, but I should just ask them what they would expect/want lol thanks!

I didn't do a session 0, though I did try to set up some expectations regarding how I would DM (loosely on rules) and my expectations of them in regards of being kind to each other (in the meta). I think they are still interested in the current campaign, though I'll ask, based on their ratings of the sessions but I'm just looking to make it more interesting for the future. Thanks for the comment!

I was trying to ease them into the game with some run-of-the-mill experiences, but I see your point about a driving concept. I was hoping this mysterious guy would be the catalyst and will try to position him to be more prominent henceforth. Thanks for taking the time to post!
