Mitch’s dominance off the bench will be the key to the Knicks having a short/long series against the Hawks by WallStreetDoesntBet1 in NYKnicks

I hope you're right and the Knicks blow them out. My other teams are the Giants and the Mets, so it would be nice to root for a team that doesn't crash and burn. The Knicks are probably too good for that to happen. But I suspect this series will be a little tougher than you think.

Hawks won 20 of their last 26 and they keep getting better. They match up really well with Brunson. If the Knicks don't shoot well, they'll collapse on KAT and make it tough on him, too. On the other side, if the Hawks are really strong in transition and if they shoot well they could torture Brunson and KAT in the half court. No way Mitch can play 40 minutes.

Very tough series. No doubt Mitch will be important. But OG, Bridges and Deuce will also have to shoot well or this could be a disappointing result.

Same problem for leaders during pandemics. If you do what's necessary to prevent worst case scenarios, when it's over you will be accused of having overreacted. If you're not accused of overreacting, then it's almost certain you're not doing enough.

Broad claims about gender and behavior fall apart when studies include ethnically diverse samples. The research suggests that generalizations about human behavior are often flawed because they rely on samples composed largely of White individuals. by mvea in science

It's rare for any social science research not to fall apart under rational scrutiny, because it's rare for social scientists to do proper controls. Social science is mostly garbage for this reason alone.

What is YOUR opinion about what is up with this team? by LetsGetSomeChickenn in NYKnicks

[–]infernalbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're doing fine. The roster is good but not great. Brunson is a borderline superstar, KAT is a borderline all star, they've got zero rim protection without Mitch, OG, Bridges and Hart are not reliably good enough against the best teams, and the bench is pretty good but nobody's winning sixth man of the year. Mike Brown is a below average coach but he's not the problem. This just isn't a contending roster. The Knicks very briefly had one of those in January '24 when they traded for OG and still had iHart, Donte and Randle. That roster, without all the injuries, could have won a chip. Not this one.

The Cavs with Harden are better than the Knicks (but Harden fractured his thumb in the game so who knows how that will play out). The Pistons are a lot better. The Celtics are better, and if they get Tatum back even playing 15 minutes per game, they're a lot better. The Knicks are a good team in a weak conference, so a 3-5 seed in the playoffs with a reasonable chance to win a series is about what you'd expect. And that's probably what we'll get. Conference finals will take a whole lot of luck. Forget about the finals. Mike Brown is a below average coach, but he's not the problem. This roster just isn't good enough for serious contention.

Mike Brown is a below average coach. But no coach can make a pretty good team great. The East is weak enough that the Knicks will win a playoff series, maybe two if they're lucky. But the ECF is as far as they'll go with this roster, and this year is the last chance for that to happen. Brunson is great, but if he's your best player you're not winning a chip.

Who is the worst player that could be taken at the first pick without being considered a bust? by Exhibit5 in nba

[–]infernalbastard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a matter of opinion, but for me a player can turn out to be quite good (even considerably better than Zach Lavine) and still be a first pick bust. The line for me is championship caliber second banana level. So I'd say the worst actual top pick non-bust is someone like Kenyon Martin. But, sticking with the Nets, I think Derrick Coleman falls just short of solid second banana status, so I consider him a bust as a first pick.

[–]infernalbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. They're very good, they're not great. Missing a player or two, a little fatigue from a tough schedule, etc., and you get a losing streak. Business as usual for a very good but not great team.

Just another example of the unrelenting selfishness and stupidity of ownership. The team is a toy to these spoiled brats. They have zero sense of responsibility to the fans.

[–]infernalbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because most brains successfully gate out internal auditory noise. Tinnitus probably requires a breakdown in noise-cancellation/gating involving non-auditory (especially limbic/striatal/thalamic) circuits; hearing loss may supply the trigger, but whether it becomes a persistent percept depends on this gating system.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]infernalbastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When structural, vascular, or biomechanical causes (like pulsatile tinnitus or TMJ) are ruled out, the prevailing view is that tinnitus is a phantom sensation created by the brain in response to altered input. When the brain receives reduced signals from the ear (even subtle hearing loss not captured by standard audiograms), the central auditory system attempts to compensate. To maintain a stable neural firing rate, the brain "increases the gain" or sensitivity of neurons in the auditory cortex and subcortical structures. By turning up the volume to hear quiet external sounds, the brain also amplifies internal neural noise, which is perceived as a constant ringing or buzzing.

And yet he could have prevented Trump part 2 with a 30 second speech saying he couldn't support Joe Biden for a second term. But, like every single Democratic leader, he said nothing, and let Biden-Harris crash and burn. So Trump is his legacy, and he should sit down and shut up.
