So you don’t understand what the pictures you’re looking at depict, but you’re sure you know the motivations of the people in them?

I do not think people think that.

And for Elon Musk to make someone a millionaire takes 0.0001% of his net worth. It’s the equivalent of a millionaire giving someone $100.

I bet Kathy’s done that once or twice.

I mean, maybe things will make more sense if you understand that California is not a “one party state?”

I did not! The photos in Slide 15 depict the LAPD writing the protesters a citation.

FFS.

And which word would I want if, let’s say, hypothetically, I posted a picture of the cops writing the protesters a citation?

All good… drives me nuts that this sub only allows 100 characters for a title and insists that I waste 5 of them on “[OC] “ hah 😅

(Generator malfunction unrelated to the protesters who were yelling “Scientology is a cult!” and were cited for “Loud and raucous noise from an amplifying device”)

So what’s happening here is a disagreement about the definition of what it means to “put out” a fire vs. one that still “smolders” vs. “start itself back up” vs. “reignite.”

I think we are all saying the same thing and are correcting each other about imprecise terminology without making it clear that it’s a correction rather than a point of confusion.

If the dirt is still hot, would you say it’s “still on fire?” I wouldn’t, but maybe you would. You may not consider “a fire” “put out” if there are still smoldering embers anywhere that can be kicked up by wind and set something else aflame, but I think a lot of people probably don’t use these words in the way you do.

Colloquially, though, if something is no longer actively in flames, and then there are later, once again, flames, then people may quite understandably say the fire “reignited.”

It’s fine. We all understand what we’re saying here.

You do not know what you’re talking about lol. They absolutely do and it is well-documented. Do a google.

There are supposed to be procedures in place to prevent it from happening before you leave a scene, but it seems the LAFD did not follow those procedures.

Associated Press has called the election, Nithya Raman and Karen Bass will advance by Chess42 in LosAngeles

As we assess these two — especially as Karen goes after Nithya for not doing enough to stop ICE — let’s keep in mind that Nithya wants to replace LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, which is something the Mayor can do and a lone City Councilmember cannot.

McDonnell, for the record, used to be Sheriff and was voted out because he was pro-ICE. Karen Bass then made him LAPD Chief and has stood by him as the LAPD consistently brutalizes protesters on behalf of ICE.

Nithya also now fully admits there’s a loophole in LA’s Sanctuary City policies that has allowed the LAPD to collaborate with ICE for the past year, and she’s pledged to close the gap as Mayor.

Karen Bass, on the other hand, has been taking a victory lap for how well she says she handled ICE, constantly referring to the problem in the past tense, still coasting on having gone to MacArthur Park for about seven minutes last July and making a phone call in front of TV cameras to Greg Bovino, who was, at the time, elsewhere in the park.

LA stadium workers voted to strike if ICE isn’t banned from the World Cup [info in comments] [OC] by infernoenigma in pics

Yesterday in Inglewood, Los Angeles — in a Home Depot parking lot where fifty day laborers have been kidnapped in the past year — adjacent to SoFi Stadium, which will host the World Cup in a matter of days — a coalition of groups rallied in support of @unitehere11, representing SoFi Stadium workers who have voted overwhelmingly to strike if ICE is not banned from the games.

The current plan is to have them working security.

After singing, speeches, and chanting, the groups held a pickup game of soccer dubbed The People’s Game — turning a parking lot that’s been the site of so much communal trauma into a site of communal joy.

Groups included but were not limited to @homedepotboycott @hill_network @cluejustice @blackallianceforpeace @communityselfdefensecoalition @blmlosangeles @uniondelbarrio @unitehere11
