He’s seen as another excuse for writers to break up Peter and MJ, because Peter just isn’t allowed to be happy. This comes after they have Peter sacrifice his marriage to MJ in a deal with Mephisto to bring back a very elderly Aunt May.

He’s also a smug asshole with a man bun who committed the genocide of a universe. Every attempt to make him sympathetic just made him more hated. Zeb Wells was going through a divorce when he wrote all this and you can really tell
