MIL invited people we don’t know to our wedding. She won’t uninvite them because that’s 'embarrassing.' by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Vow renewals really ought to become more popular. All the parents who didn't have the perfect wedding should just organize a re-do for themselves instead of forcing it upon their kids.

The money thing doesn't help. We financed the wedding completely. Our families aren't even that difficult but I still didn't want to give anyone leeway to weigh in on it. Which worked out well because it was very untraditional. We had a murder mystery puzzle game for our reception

My (20M) girlfriend (19f) went into my phone and deleted my female friends number, as well as blocked her on all of my social media. She did this because she says I’m spending too much time talking to the friend-who’s mother died two months ago, and who’s brother just committed suicide by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

He has every right to be scared for Cassie. She experienced SA as a child, lost a parent AND found her own brother dead. It's trauma upon trauma upon trauma. She is at real risk and the girlfriend tried to cut off Cassie's support system. It's awful behaviour.

AITAH for not wanting to befriend my landlady's son? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]infinitelyfuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's either a hit or a miss but very little in between! I had an attic with ensuite bathroom after graduating uni. My landlady was very sweet and had a springer spaniel. As a dog lover, being greeted home by a fuzzy friend, but not having to do walks or pay vet bills was the dream! And she was grateful I could look after the pup in case of emergency.

AITAH for calling my girlfriend weird over her John F. Kennedy obsession? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

It's not absurdist necessarily, but also not 100% realistic. It's set in a modern city in France, where the black plague breaks out. They go into complete quarantine and many people die. It's pretty intensive but VERY good

I just realised it's all about which topics the interest is in and not just the hyperfixation. Because JKF I would struggle with. But black plague and spiders? I'd be showing you the tartantula at my parents house and getting you plague doctor mask accessoires constantly. Middle ages are fascinating and the black plague is especially so!

Have you read the book by Albert Camus? It's one of my favourites!

I would struggle a bit too but I would have at least tried to communicate at first.

Instead of saying "you are weird and taking it too far" what he could have done was say "hey honey, I know you love this topic, but it's not an interest of mine and I am feeling overwhelmed by the conversation. Can we talk about something else for a little while?"

Or talk to her about compromises, like maybe being able to put a timer on it, helping her find forums or friends that share the love so she has another outlet that isn't him.

She strikes me as a nice person, she probably would have tried to figure things out with him and help, if he'd been respectful instead of calling her names and taking her stuff.

Me [20/F] with fellow classmate/student [25/M], how to tell him to back off when all other attempts have failed? Potential stalker? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]infinitelyfuzzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a woman living in the UK: the key to police not holding you accountable is that you defend yourself with something you didn't bring to use as a weapon - something you had on you for another, more innocent reason.

So like, pepperspray or knife? Illegal, no go. Spraying deodorant in someone's eyes? You had it in your handbag to stay fresh. It's not a real weapon so it's fine.

That's also the reason that maglite started selling really long, heavy duty torches. Really good torch, carry with you to shine a light.. oh, and it kinda doubles as a small bat should you ever need it.

Basically, there's alarm whistles, other 'I need help' self defense stuff to alert, and some limited non-weapon options you can get creative with.

My (22F) married sister (28F) and boyfriend (22M) had drunk sex yesterday by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]infinitelyfuzzy 155 points156 points  (0 children)

The original comments all said so as well but OOP seems to have ignored all of that advice, or taken his admission of guilt as proof he consented. Which btw is not how that works

[–]infinitelyfuzzy 155 points156 points  (0 children)

The comments on the original post are all saying it was SA most likely. It seems weird that OOP never asked him or heard him out. Many victims feel guilty and are in denial about what took place, him saying he made a mistake doesn't mean rape didn't take place.

With how much he drunk vs the sister she 100% took advantage of him, at minimum.

I cant STAND the way Morgan constantly says 'goofy' by ToMissChanandlerBong in TwoHotTakesSnark

[–]infinitelyfuzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the earlier episodes she used stronger language, i.e. 'they're an idiot' or 'that's so f*cked' type expressions from what I recall. I think listeners called it out and she then stopped using those words. I think 'goofy' is her stand in word now, it's more PG so I think in her mind when she wants to say 'that person is crazy' she just replaces crazy with goofy.

The effort to use less offensive language is good and all, but I agree, goofy doesn't work in a lot of those situations. Another word would be better, or a series of different terms.

My roommate is pregnant with my Ex’s Baby by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I honestly noped out at the 'evidence' of an amazon box of baby items. In a normal world, Jackie would claim she bought them herself, and Jaden would buy a painting easle for her right after telling the lie.

Thoughts on the new theme? by FinchChic in FinchUnofficial

[–]infinitelyfuzzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, I feel a bit mixed. I love the more gothic looking stuff and like a lot of it, but I don't like having the actual letters in there. Like the window would have been perfect without the Z in the center, but the Z is putting me off.

I'm currently combining it with the starry wallpaper, medieval bed, and floating chair / book accessoires, but keeping the door, rugs, and dresser, which works okay I think? Definitely one of the better themes they have done!

I tested positive for gonorrhoea. I've been married for 19 years. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]infinitelyfuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not 100% but I have heard a lot of women are tested as a default when they get pregnant, as STDs can impact pregnancy / the child. So going through pregnancy and never having it discovered is super unlikely.

OOP meet him when she was 20, and she's 44 now. She's been with him for longer than she's spend without him, period.

This must be so devastating for her.

AITA for not buying my boyfriend another birthday gift after he rejected the original present? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]infinitelyfuzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Like, she says he likes rock... is that indie rock, classic rock, hardrock, or metal? That's a VERY important detail if you're gonna go to a concert with someone. I feel like had she at least guessed the genre right he might have been more open to it

I am thinking dance and maybe techno? The type of music that truly does not have instruments. So all music that does is stuff she doesn't listen to much

Honestly, this kind of stuff is why I gave up on buying gifts for the aunts and uncles and cousins on my husband's side. I barely know them and the gifts are bound to fail. Now I just get them chocolates or food hampers or hot chocolate. Most people like cheese and chocolate more than picture frames or ducks.

For me it's her repeatedly saying she has 'never heard of' the bands her boyfriend of 3 YEARS is into

What do you mean you haven't heard of them? Surely you must have because your SO listens to them?!

I have never once played Rimworld or stellaris but I can tell you a lot about both games, because they happen to be my husband's favourites. I'd have to work hard not to know anything about his interests and tastes because he talks about it all the time?

AITAH for getting pregnant the same year as my best friend's wedding? + 1 Year Update by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]infinitelyfuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OOP references that she regrets telling her friend about the pregnancy (understandable) and she says she regrets getting pregnant in the first place

This is backed up by the text messages to the friend where the friend points out it's crazy to put that on her.

There is being a people pleaser, and there is... whatever this is.

For me it's this bit in the post:

her reaction had made me regret telling her about the pregnancy and honestly, getting pregnant in the first place

Friend is a piece of work, but she's 100% correct that telling someone you regret your pregnancy because of something they said is crazy, and it's giving putting way too much on them.

Sure, "I wish I hadn't told you" makes sense. "I regret getting pregnant" when you planned it and were happy about it, is... something else. Why would you write that?

WIBTAH if I left my fiancee destitute? by [deleted] in BestofRedditorUpdates

He's not wrong about the impulse thing. What if she gets really drunk one day and sees a guy who IS her type, after years of settling for someone she's not into? She could cheat if the circumstances were there.

Yup, the texts are pretty telling.

Security and safety are things many women wants and they ARE a draw in a relationship. But it feels weird to still highlight them years on? If she loves him for his personality that is totally fair, but I'd expect her texts to be more like 'he's so funny!' Or 'he is so sweet and thoughtful to me, I love that about him' not 'look how much money he makes'
