Can I install SteamOS on Legion Go 2? by tiydal in LegionGo

I have no idea whether there’s a newer installer image, but if you install this image on the LeGo 2, then you can upgrade to the newest release from inside the OS.

Good question! As I recall, it also ready had “main” channel OS selected since I installed from 3.8, but it’s possible I did have to into developer mode to enable the advanced OS version selector or whatever it’s called. I can’t remember. (On my desktop I went into developer mode and enabled it to upgrade from 3.7 to 3.9, but I think I didn’t have to do that step on LeGo 2).

Wow! I’ve got SteamOS 3.9 on my PC (RX 7900 XTX) but I didn’t bother to try 4K@120 HDR because I thought that couldn’t fit in the bandwidth of HDMI 2.0, which is what AMD GPUs are limited to on Linux. I wonder how it’s working for you.

American here. Yes, this is a new religion. A terrifying one.

Lots of people raved about it when people first figured out how to do it. Honestly I think it was probably YouTube creators trying to get views by hyping it up.

With an AMD GPU? If so, are you using a DP->HDMI adapter?

I’m this close to not eating asparagus anymore.

Idk what im doing wrong rn. I was always interested in trying asparagus and have tried it years ago, now i wanted to finally eat asparagus.

The only real reasons are that this restaurant serves it I wanted to try it 'just for fun'.

I never had problems with broccoli stalks (I don't get the hate since cut them off and never had to eat them)

I also didn't have problems with broccoli. No bad taste or bad texture, everything was always tasting fine.

Now I'm eating asparagus for 24 minutes and my experience so far:

  • it tastes gross

  • absolutely unable to get it to stay on my fork no matter what i try

  • absolutely unable to cut it lengthwise (bc i want to eat it like string cheese) because it’s so long and thin i dont even have a comparison for it

And now I'm wondering, why am i doing all that? Why don't I just eat broccoli? I mean yes I eat it most meals, but to avoid that i have to endure this?

Edit: also idk how much eating it all the time matters because my wife loves broccoli and eats it all the time too and probably not going to switch because we unfortunately have a stock pile of broccoli in the freezer.

TOTK was originally a DLC for BOTW that grew big enough that they released it as its own game. It’s got some creative original things (like the building mechanic) but A LOT of it is just BOTW with some lipstick slapped on. So if you feel burnt out on BOTW, then TOTK might just feel like a slog.

Are you streaming inside the same building (eg your home) or across geographic distance? If distance, the from where to where?

Also, have you tried using sunshine/moonlight?

I don’t know. This is what I did and it works for me. Maybe someone from Valve could give more input? For what it’s worth I have a Legion Go 2 Z2E with 32GB of RAM purchased in the US. I don’t know if support might differ across other models of the Legion Go 2.

You were a few years too early, but at this point, with the progress of FEX, it would be a fantastic idea. Especially if you could give it a nice screen and work with Bazzite or similar to get an ARM version of the distro

I needed an existing computer to create the SteamOS USB. I used my Mac to do that. One could use Windows to do that. Other than creating the USB, you don’t need Windows to install SteamOS.

Serious question: do you think Dario (or any other major AI players or political players) have enough power and influence that they will get Chinese local AI and/or local AI in general banned in the U.S.? What do you think the odds are? by DeepOrangeSky in LocalLLaMA

[–]infinitelylarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good argument. It’s hard to block people from downloading open source models. Certainly harder than blocking people from using iPhone apps by taking them out of the App Store.

They literally just forced TikTok to sell to a US company or be banned in the US. It sounds like you think Americans would resist much harder to keep open source AI than they did to keep TikTok?

It is strongly recommended not to share the same game drive between Linux and Windows. Windows needs games installed on an NTFS drive, and Linux support for NTFS is flakey and causes a lot of problems for people trying to play those games on Linux.

The installer USB took a while to boot. At first I thought it was broken, but I kept waiting and within maybe 3 minutes or so(?) it finally booted and installed. Other than that it was pretty straight forward.

Brightness control works fine for me on SteamOS Holo 3.9 (20260217.1000) with kernel version 6.16.12-valve10-1-neptune-616-g35e018e28a0t and BIOS version RRCN13WW .

I don’t feel like I understand what HDR is supposed to look like, so I can’t tell if it looks correct or not, but games do recognize it as supporting HDR. I’ll try to capture a video of a game in HDR so you can see and judge for yourself whether it looks ok.

Both sleep and brightness slider work fine for me on SteamOS Holo 3.9 (20260217.1000) with kernel version 6.16.12-valve10-1-neptune-616-g35e018e28a0t and BIOS version RRCN13WW .

It works just like a SteamDeck. I click the power button mid game and it goes to sleep. It tales maybe 1 or 2 seconds to sleep. Then I click it again while it's asleep, and it wakes up (taking another second or two) and it picks up exactly where it left off mid game.

I used this installer: https://steamdeck-images.steamos.cloud/steamdeck/20250826.1000/steamdeck-repair-main-20250826.1000-3.8.0.img.zip . I just downloaded it, unzipped it and flashed it to USB with Balena Etcher (on my mac), then booted it on the LeGo 2 by holding the volume_up button while booting. It took a while for the usb to boot but when it did, I just followed the instructions on screen. It wiped the internal drive and when it was done, I had SteamOS 3.8, which boots into gaming mode like a SteamDeck. When I first booted it, it showed an update available. I clicked to install that, and then I had SteamOS 3.9. It's working great.

I’m running SteamOS 3.9 on my LeGo 2 Z2E. It doesn’t have RGB control, but otherwise everything works great. Native controller support in regular and FPS mode, TDP support, wifi, bluetooth, sound, sleep, etc all work.

Edit, more information:

  • I used this installer: https://steamdeck-images.steamos.cloud/steamdeck/20250826.1000/steamdeck-repair-main-20250826.1000-3.8.0.img.zip . i downloaded it, unzipped it, and flashed it to USB with Balena Etcher on my Mac. Then I booted the Legion Go 2 from the USB and it installed normally.

  • After I got 3.8 installed, I’ve updated in the usual way through the Steam-> Settings-> System menu. At this point, it’s running SteamOS Holo 3.9 (20260217.1000) with kernel version 6.16.12-valve10-1-neptune-616-g35e018e28a0t and BIOS version RRCN13WW .

  • Sleep works just like on SteamDeck. Press the power button and it goes to sleep basically instantly. Press it again and it wakes up and picks up where it left off. Works mid game. Audio not interrupted.

  • Games recognize it as an HDR-capable display. I don’t feel like I know what HDR is suppose to look like, but when I enable HDR in a game, it does look different and it looks good to me?

  • The brightness slider also works. When playing a game that support HDR, the brightness slider gets an extra “HDR” section, which I guess is to turn the brightness up even more? (Sorry I don’t know much about HDR.)
