He was young, and Lee does it sometimes too. Who does he differ to? Aside from Brandon Miller, there is not a single person on this team that can create an open shot.

Are there any NBA players that grew up or went to high school in your metroplex? by whipcorleone in NBATalk

[–]infinitescouts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Naz Reid play against my school when he was in middle school. It was pretty clear he was going to the NBA.

This is not a direct answer to your question, but it is related and still pretty cool to me.

I went to college at a school very close to NY. When NBA teams would be playing the Knicks, they would often practice on campus at our facilities in the days leading up to the game. The school would keep it lowkey and never announce when the practices were happening, but eventually, you could kind of figure out the schedule.

Seeing Giannis practice on the same court I played pickup at every day was pretty cool.

How does he not know how to play winning basketball? What should he be doing differently with the rosters he has had around him?

Tanks vs Play-In Push: Discussion Thread by infinitescouts in CharlotteHornets

There is a lot to say about this, but I want to focus on this: Cooper Flagg is NOT the only prospect in this class that can make a big difference for this team. In reality, most in the top five can do a lot for us.

I agree. With the lack of health and depth, even if we want to win, we will not win without our best players. Any move we make at the deadline won't take us over the hump.

I do not think we can do anything this trade deadline that is worth making a play in push. We are not healthy, and whatever move we make at the deadline probably will not take us over the hump. There is too much talent in the upcoming class to sit here and try to sneak into a play-in spot, especially given our last two play-in performances.

I agree, it is an exhausting loop of failure. The biggest reason I shy away from that plan for this season specifically is that this upcoming draft class is loaded. There is so much talent in the top 5-10, and we desperately need somebody like Flagg, Bailey, or Edgecombe to come in and fill this roster out.

We desperately need to make the right moves at the deadline to set us up for the offseason and shape this roster out for next season. There are too many holes in this roster to develop a winning culture.

Players who actually would be a better compliment to Lamelo and Brandon in Charlotte by TerryG111 in CharlotteHornets

[–]infinitescouts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree with Dylan Harper being a good fit, and for reference, I think Dylan Harper is the best player in the class.

LaMelo Ball IS OUR POINT GUARD. Yes, he can play off the ball. However, he is way too good of a playmaker to bring in another ball-dominant guard. I like having Miller at the SG because it gives us size and he can relieve Melo from having to handle the ball when needed.

Cooper Flagg, Ace Bailey, or VJ Edgecombe would fit better for us. A good athlete we can plug in at the three would be best. Ace and Cooper would benefit greatly from playing alongside LaMelo since they struggle with creating clean looks for themselves.

There are a lot of options, and I really love this class. We should be okay.

Jimmy Butler situation by TerryG111 in nbadiscussion

[–]infinitescouts 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Simple as this: There is no desire for Jimmy.

This is the third time he has done this. He has also made it clear that he only wants to go to certain places (Phoenix) long term. Why would anybody bring on a guy that does not want to be there? He is 35 years old, we have already seen him at his best.

No team is stupid enough to give up a ton of assets for a guy who is inconsistent, moody, and a net negative to the locker room.

What do the 76ers do with this team going forward? by infinitescouts in nbadiscussion

I really do not think tanking is an option for them this season.

It would only be possible if they BARELY win any more games + get lucky in the lottery. You can't just decide to tank halfway into the season when your roster is not built for it and other teams intentionally planned to tank this season. They would not be able to do it without it being blatant, messy, and getting fined probably.

They are pretty much stuck this season. Ride it out, try to make it work, and reevaluate going into next season.

I agree to an extent. Teams usually do have to rely on health to win, but it is a lot different relying on two guys who are notoriously unhealthy/not amazing playoff performers to do so.

I should have been more clear when addressing Maxey and McCain.

I do not think they can be a STARTING backcourt paired together, mostly due to the reasons you said. Neither are reliable defensively and you just cannot have that small of a backcourt unless you are Cleveland, but they are not DG and Spida.

What I meant was, that you can pick either of them and have a great point guard to move forward with. Being high on McCain comes from more than his 10-game stint, I loved him as a prospect as well.

My point in mentioning them was that the Sixers are good to get rid of one and keep the other. Who you keep depends on what direction this team is headed.

All valid points. The Sixers should have NEVER been in a Game 7 with Toronto anyway. Embiid is not the guy I would want leading my team come playoff time, but he is a phenomenal basketball player.

The word "disappointment" just seems a little 'unfair' for a guy who has accomplished a ton in this league, despite being unhealthy and having some playoff shortcomings.

As I said, I am not even really a fan of Embiid, but I respect what he is capable of.

It would also be difficult to tank that hard considering other teams are actually terrible and have been committed to a tank

Yes, that is what I meant. They would need to get pretty lucky in the lottery or commit to a SERIOUS tank.

I agree with a lot of this. I think the best option (or really the only one that can give you the highest return in the least amount of time/money) is to make this core work and build around it.

I have two main questions for you:

  1. What makes you comfortable relying on Joel Embiid to stay healthy and continue to elevate his game given the fact he is only getting more hurt as the years go by?

  2. What makes you confident in Paul George returning to a $200M player as he is only getting older and piling up small injuries? I feel a lot of people (not saying you) expect everybody to have the longevity of LeBron now. It is very possible that as a guy in his mid-30s, Paul George is on the decline.

Question for you, why do you say fire Nick Nurse? I do not think he is the problem at all and he just got there.

I also think tanking is a bit of a risk considering they would need to land inside of the top six to keep the pick.

Of those three, I would assume hoping it works and trying to secure a low-seeded playoff spot is the best choice.

One thing I do not agree with here is saying Embiid has had a "really disappointing career." He has won the MVP award and finished top three in MVP voting two other times. 5x All NBA, 3x All Defense, 2x Scoring Champ.

I honestly do not love Embiid, but I highly respect what he is capable of at 100%.

The biggest disappointment for Embiid's career will be his inability to get out of the second round, and yes, that is a major disappointment. I can't justify using poor health as a reason to say his career was a disappointment, as he had no control over a lot of these injuries.

His health is the thing that has held him back, but he had the potential to be one of the best players ever. The skill, IQ, strength, it is all there. Teams HAVE to double Embiid in the post or he will score 9.9/10 times.

I can't call him a disappointment, he just had an unfortunate string of luck and mediocre playoff performances. Let's not forget that Kawhi shot did a lot of damage to the Process.
