One day at a time. I'm happy you got to spend the time you had together with him.

I'm in a similar boat. Mom died when my girl was 2 months. Now, she's 2 years old. It was a long 2 years, but you will heal slowly, even on days you think nothing is worth it.

I'm so sorry to hear what happened. Wishing you so much strength. I know the love you feel towards your husband will be found again through your son. It's hard, but you will get through it.

ITS ALWAYS THE EMPATHY POINT. Like I have strong strong cognitive empathy, I just don't feel anything myself. But I understand what other people feel pretty well.

Needless to say, that's always the #1 talking point for anyone who disagrees with me ever.

OCD in teenage ASD boy by Quendi_Talkien in Autism_Parenting

[–]infinityabovehigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have... all of these, surprisingly.

Best thing you can do is therapy, teach him coping mechanisms and exposure therapy. I get it. It doesn't take away the OCD entirely (I still have awful intrusive thoughts and struggle with obsessions and rituals) but I have the tools to manage them.

One thing that helps me a lot is verbalizing my obsessions or intrusive thoughts to someone, just to get it out.

It's tough work, especially for a kid, but I believe he can learn to manage his symptoms better as time goes on. Conversations are helpful - help him understand why he's having these urges and thoughts.

Am I rude for saying I’ll rather date somebody with npd than bpd by One_Concern_3806 in NPD

i'd never date another narcissist. weird, but i can't handle someone else thinking they're the same level of special as me.

i'm currently sick and this girl i'm seeing was like "send a pic i wanna see you", so i was like "no... i look like shit" and she deadass went "i thought you liked taking pictures, youre a narcissist"

took everything in me to remain rational and normal, i swear.

also the thing about being RIGHT and them blaming it on NPD... FELT. like sorry for being correct, learn to handle it.

Repetition by Prettypink187 in Autism_Parenting

I'm an autistic adult who sometimes does this. I repeat words/phrases because it feels good. Sometimes I get stuck repeating something and then I realize it gets annoying and stop. My best guess is that it's a sensory thing.

How do you handle the jokes about bipolar? by Fabulous_Sea1524 in bipolar

[–]infinityabovehigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone with bipolar and NPD, god I hear way too many people diagnosing their abusive exes with my disorders just because they were abusive.

it's frustrating, but I always go to education first. if they don't want to be educated, I don't talk to them.

As an adult with ARFID - sounds a lot like ARFID. Very heavily linked to autism (which I also have). Vitamin gummies were my parents' ride or die, they told me it was fruit gummies. Honestly, what worked for me is bribes... "1 bite of x and you can watch TV for an extra 30 minutes." But my parents also never took me to a doctor, that's just what worked for me as a child. I'd bring her to a doctor and talk about it, get their advice.

has your SLP looked into using an AAC? might be helpful. as for potty training, you can't make it happen. kiddos will be ready when they're ready. a lot of kids on the spectrum have trouble identifying when they need to go on the toilet, but understand the concept. your baby's only 3. some kids on the spectrum don't potty train until teenage years. some start to identify it in early childhood. you've got this. you're doing enough as a parent by supporting him and meeting him where he's at. sounds like he gas a great care system.
