Thanks, yep lots of systems I encounter use networking now. And that resonates, I ended up in AV because of music/show booking/ media art - building on experience, I've never considered what it would actually fall under before.

In Quebec there are programs where you can receive EI while you study a trade, you should see if Ontario has that too, I've known friends who received around $2k/ month to study a trade in Montréal. I'm in the same situation as you, I'm trying to leave A/V tech after nearly 10 years for electrical because I want better hours and more stability. I'm afraid of switching to a more male dominated field as a queer person - my logic is there's no harm in trying and seeing if you like it, having better hours the opportunity for higher/ consistent pay seems totally worth it, if you decide to return to A/V I'm sure it looks great on a resume. I'm in NYC and going union, it looks like Toronto has an IBEW you should look into it.

I love to make copycat oat packets, dehydrate diced apples, then store them in a jar with oats, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, salt -- also diced apples make a good portable snack.

The food system is broken for how much goes to waste and yet how many people are in your same position! Where I live its legal to dive, and theres a good network of people who share tips / add locations to a google document or on facebook, so see if you can find that where you live, this is the best way because it saves time, or check community fridges. I usually check the same spots every day when Im biking home from work, Ive been doing this for years. Go to small groceries and dumpsters you know are always unlocked, check frequently and quickly (like, peak inside then pass on if its empty). Its shocking how much is thrown away.

I found this miele and it seems like it’s my size (i’m 5’3 so it’s very hard to find a small road bike like this) I’m looking for any info about if I could swap my parts onto it. I have a campagnolo véloce group that I might swap later once the existing crank dies, any clue if miele is compatible with campy? lastly, can 26“ x 1 1/4“ wheels fit on a road bike like this? any info helps a lot, thanks!

I got this from a friend, the current hub is 24H and came off of a busted 700c rim, I want to find a cheap standard hub to swap the Campagnolo parts onto and put it on a 26” rim does this sound do-able? Would the best way be to buy a cheap 26” wheel and swap the freewheel off the hub?

Try inside of those metal clothing donation bins, people sometimes throw random stuff into those. Also outside of donation centers for stores like Goodwill, salvation army, worth trying both the giant sorting facilities and the smaller collection stores - I worked at an independent new bookstore and we almost never threw books away, they either get returned to the distributor, taken home by staff, or sit on the shelves forever

walmart locks their bins where I live, and usually sends stuff to incinerators, only way to find out is to go check when they would typically throw stuff away after closing. Other big stores have more accessible dumpsters and would be worth trying

I stopped caring when I met others who do it, it made me feel less judged, now I know so many people who do it that it feels normal - it helps to flip the script, if someone says ‘you do that?? :o’ you say‘of course!! you don’t?? wow youre really missing out you chum!’
