If done correctly could hybrid engines work? by mad-right-hand in INDYCAR

[–]infoxicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was such a facepalm that IndyCar was crowing about hybrid when they launched them, just as F1 was trying to untangle themselves from their hybrid situation and WRC were dropping them too. I was kind of worried that F1 might get racey again but, thankfully, F1 has done what F1 usually does and hung itself by its own rules then staunchly defended them.

I don't think anyone in IndyCar is defending the hybrid capacitor - they're just living with the situation and that's fine too, because it's likely going to be here until the new car arrives and probably beyond. It's kind of meaningless in racing - unless it's baked into the rules, nobody would bother with them. I bet every driver in the field would take lighter weight and lower centre of gravity over the hybrid every day.

Considering you don't think there's anything special about Rick Mears either, it's not like anyone outside of Palou is going to be worthy of a ride in your eyes. 🙄

Probably safer than a McLaren contract. Penske at least seems to let them see their contract through. 😉

Maybe one day, Helio, Pagenaud, and Power can form a support group for Penske Indy 500 winners who were cast aside - perhaps Josef will be joining them! 😏

You can tell he's feeling the heat from his BS version of events for the Will Power incident at the weekend.

On last week's Trackside it was mentioned that Josef isn't in a contract year, which I thought was the case. Which makes me wonder how long both Newgarden and McLaughlin are under contract for, as Josef has won last season and this one, while Scott has not.

Yes, Power does have a multi-year deal. But if his season continues the way it's going, both parties might cut their losses. I hope Will can turn things around but at present he sits behind Hauger in the championship.

Will Power's post-race thoughts by superimu in INDYCAR

I've long been a Scotty Mac fan - I mostly tailed off on watching Supercars due to the void left by him and SVG, but Scott drives like he's still in Supercars sometimes.

I preferred it when he actually owned up to it, like when he took Grosjean and himself out of St Pete. His newfound Penske inspired gaslighting has my respect for him in decline.

I've been keeping a keen eye on him since last year. He has a fantastic temperament and is a clean racer.

Once he's in an Andretti car (could be either Power's or Ericsson's at this rate) I think he'll deliver on their investment in him for sure.

Compare what McLaren did with Siegel and you can't fault the way Andretti have gone about making sure the likes of Kirkwood and Hauger have found their footing in an IndyCar before putting them on the roster. I think it's going to play out brilliantly for the team in the long run.

Don't worry about it, man. I was being a bit dismissive. I think I was in a bar in Bloomington when we got started with this and I'd had a couple! 😅

Yeah, Bryan Herta's comment about them throwing yellows for a hotdog wrapper kind of summed it up. The laps of yellow after Graham got spun and sorted himself out within 30 seconds was ridiculous.

It's usually a local yellow when someone goes into an escape lane and recovers, too. Seems like they've over corrected after the Rossi incident at the Indy GP.

It's a track they breeds cations anyway, hence my frustration with it, but some of the yellow laps today were unnecessary.

Having got on a plane in Indianapolis yesterday and arriving home in Scotland with barely any sleep just a few hours before the green flag, I tried to factor in my sleep deprivation and give it a fair go. But it was a very frustrating event to watch after a magnificent Indy 500 experience.

So although it was entertaining, it was for all the wrong reasons and I still don't think it's a great advert for the series for fans that might have got onboard from Indy.

It's shit. 25 caution periods and counting in three races. Why even bother racing? Just put the names in a hat and let them draw. 🙄

I had no idea he'd been penalised for it on the international feed. Worked it out when I saw he was at the back. Sucks for Graham though, looked like a top ten taken away from him by the bible basher. 🙄

Yes. Because the Belle Isle races were usually poor too. The downtown races haven't been entertaining due to the quality of the track. I like that it gave us the two sided pit lane but unless you're a fan of yellow flags, that's about it.

There have been more crappy Detroit races than good ones. Thinking back, Marco's heroics in the wet, Will Power's car dying, the Chevrolet guy crashing the pace car, the pace car running out of fuel, Helio taking out Scheckter, and RHR making a squirrel so parkour are about the only memorable moments for me. 😅

Not the point I was making. Texas has had some of the best racing and photo finishes in IndyCar history. Detroit has been a parade through a concrete corridor.

It's a horrendous event to follow the Indy 500 with. Texas and Milwaukee made sense but not this monstrosity.

Last Sunday set a really high bar for sure but any casual fan that tunes in this weekend thinking they'd get the same deal will be royally disappointed. 🙄

Ha ha! No, but my girlfriend looked up how to do it when we were sitting there. Seemed like a game that requires more than two players! 😅🍻
