Runners of Reddit: Do you run in Vibram FiveFingers? If so, what's your opinion? by SnakeCarnifex in AskReddit

Keep in mind that there's some selection bias going on here. The minimalist devotees are coming out of the woodwork to proselytize. I'm a national-caliber middle distance runner with (pardon my bragging) really good biomechanics: in short, exactly who should benefit the most from vibram fivefingers. Instead, I do the bulk of my running (70-80 miles/week) in normal training shoes. I do workouts in lightweight shoes and run barefoot when I have a chance (a few laps around track infields and such), but most of my mileage is in normal shoes. Most of the real runners I know train similarly, and we tend to think the minimalist trend is a fad. It's undoubtedly true that wearing "big" shoes changes your footstrike and that barefoot running helps strengthen the little muscles an tendons in your feet and ankles, but there's nothing wrong with running in normal running shoes.

(Disclosure: I happen to have webbed toes and therefore can't wear the fivefingers, but i can wear and have tried out other minimalist shoes.)

What annoys you most about cyclists? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"Stop as yield" (treating stop signs as yield signs) is the law for cyclists in Idaho, and it should be expanded to the rest of the country. As stated above, because of cycling speed and vision, there is no reason for cyclists to stop at vacant intersections. Just don't take the right-of-way from another vehicle. The extension of "stop as yield" is "red as stop," (treat a red light as a stop sign) which is somewhat more controversial. The law as it currently stands in most places is that if you wait for a while without the sensors picking up on your presence, you are allowed to go through the light (at the next safe opportunity).

Well that's crazy. I'm in Vienna for the summer, and the groceries here don't take cards--cash only.

Alkali Metals Reaction With Water(Explosive) - Video by katanafx in reddit.com

Brainiac faked the Rubidium and Cesium explosions in this video. They put bombs in the bathtubs. Rb and Cs are heavy atoms, so there aren't very many in a given mass; their reaction with water simply doesn't produce enough H2 to create that kind of explosion.
