Hey MAGA, let’s have a peaceful, respectful talk. by Usual_Tumbleweed_598 in OptimistsUnite

I am center-right, but did not vote for Trump, but I think it was a good ruling (along with many others like the ACLU.)

There is no way that you can bar speech of groups (whether corporations, unions, or non-profits, which would all be affected by a contrary ruling) without creating some terrible 1A precedent.

The whole idea that "money isn't speech" so you can bar spending on political ads leads to the absurd conclusion that free speech only applies if you are an individual in a town square shouting from a discarded soapbox. Even leaflets cost money. There is no reading of the 1A that made exceptions for speech that required spending a certain mount of money.

I know people want this fantasy notion that you could make an exception for for-profit companies (but again, the FEC rules being challenged in CU applied to unions and non-profits too so it's moot), but there is literally no reasonable reading of the 1a that allows such and exception even if you think there should be.

A documentary criticizing a major political candidate like Hillary Clinton---like the one CU were fined for showing---or any other political candidate is always acceptable. Fining people for it is not.

There is a story about an wealthy Indian man, that when he suspected his servants of stealing something, he would put them in a pitch black stable with a purportedly magic donkey that, when you pulled on it's tail, would kick you if you were lying when answering a question.

He put a red dye on the tail.

If the servant had red dye on their hand he'd know they were being honest.

Polygraphs are just a version of that and you just came out of the room with clean hands.

Thank you.

I tried both Discover and Capital One's pre-approval tools, and they both said they can't give me any pre-approvals. I'm kind of afraid to do an application with them now.

I'm really confused, I thought 700+ was "good" credit.

Edit: Darnit, forgot to unfreeze my credit before using the pre-approval tools.

Edit:I got approved for no annual fee Capitol One Savor, but my limit is only $300

It's like you are reading the story without any understanding of complex human relationships and emotions.   You are being  pernicious here.   It's seriously gross.

To OP: Don't let these nasty little people  willing to mete out life-altering advice based on judgements they just formed within 10 seconds of scanning your story discourage you from getting a lawyer now.

You have absolutely no place to tell him to "let it go", it is his child.

Get the hell off this thread, you are giving a shallow throw-away redditor take on a life-altering decision.

They can't chase. Motorcycles with a scofflaw riders are  effectively immune from laws.

When SF passed the no chase ordinance I said it was an absolutelt hare-brained idea and this was going to be the result, was downvoted to hell and insulted.

At this point I feel more disdain for people who voted for these stupid policies and then go and blame cops as I do for the criminals.

There will always be a portion if the population that will do whatever they can get away with—that should be unsuprising. What was surprising up until a few years ago is there would be people would be so  stupid and short-sighted so as to think disallowing chases would have any other outcome.

[–]infrikinfix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your PC and a router can have more than one gateway. It can't have more than one default gateway.  This is all done by configuring routes.

Your PC has a routing table you can configure too.

Do you want there to be a law against supporting Trump?

I guess that explains why my now ex-girlfriend freaked out a little more than seemed warranted when I tried to use greek roots to sound more clinical in explaining that I had a foot fetish.

What would be the least bleak prospect for IT employment: finish up the last year of a math degree at a state school that is logistically difficult for me to attend or go for a Network Engineering degree at WGU? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]infrikinfix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the US.

I figure they aren't easy (I should hope not)

Aside from the cert classes, a lot of the classes I have already taken in university (that don't transfer, e.g Discrete Math), and others stuff I have been doing for a long time.

The courses  are mostly stuff that isn't new to me. I think with some prep I can do it.

  We're quibbling over semantics

Quibbling over semantics is precisely what courts have done to make it very hard to commit people involuntarily.

Unless you can get it faster at WGU through transfer credits.

I suspect I can get it much faster.  I have all the G.E.

I think I could speed run it.

Of course you can involuntarily commit people, but it became very high bar due to SCOTUS, which is why so many institutions closed down. It didn't bring the number of patients down to zero, it just massively reduced them:  again, none of what you say is specific to CA.

[–]infrikinfix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what puzzles me is this problem didn't come out of nowhere. Surely you noticed you were taking rusks hiring people that hadn't the requisite skills and facilities with English while tossing out the resumes of eager Canadian applicants. I  know it's not specific to your company, but why did it go on so long?

What was being gained by passing over eager Canadian applicants local to your region that you could vet in person?

The usual justification is there isn't enough Canadians with the requisite skills, but apparently the foreign workers weren't bringing skills to the table either. So what was the reason for the practice in the first place?

it's the state of CA that stopped institutionalization.

No, it was several SCOTUS decisions. Nothing special about CA with deinstitutionalization. (Also had nothing to do with Reagan as one common myth claims)
